I need a 3 ball arsenal.. Time for suggestions
« on: March 29, 2010, 12:51:59 PM »
A few of you may have seem my previous posts and/or threads, But just a quick background .. Im 30  Ive been bowling since I was 5 ( off and on since I was 20 ) and have been out of the game since 2006 when I had a nail go through my hand at work which causes me alot of nerve and tendon damage, But now I 'think' Im back to near 100% usability

I just got a new Diamondback drilled a little weak ( from what Ive been told ) @ 3 3/4 Right , 3/4 down, 5 1/2 x 3 1/2 .. And Its a good out of the bag ball to check lanes and is currently my only strike ball .. Im about 16.0-16.5 ball speed , and around 320 rev.. The guy at the pro shop tole me I should look for a new polished ball to compliment the matte Diamondback.. But he told me not to get something very aggressive ( Invasion , 3.5, evil siege etc ) and Im not sure why other than the fact that with my spped and rev rate I wouldnt need it..??

I know its all about how a ball is drilled so maybe its just  his way of saying I have a good speed and get good hand on the ball and he could drill something thats cheaper, a little more aggressive..??

What do you guys think?

I didn't recomend the Pure Swing as to be anti-brunswick. IMO it is a great ball. I still love throwing my Twisted Fury and use a Power Grove Dry-R for a spear ball. I just gave something new a try and had fell in love with how it reacts and seems to keep the pins lower. I seem to carry the 7 pin a litte better with it.

anyone with anymore suggestions ?? Im all ears

The DB is more than likely gonna be my medium oil ball, so I would need a nice polished to use on med oil conditions once the lanes break down, and a good heavy oil particle .. Thinking something like the rattler and reign still, but also to see what is going to be coming out for the new lineup

You really can't go wrong with a Rattler.  It has the Activator cover stock which is a very fine cover stock and the same core as your Diamondback I do believe.

You could make a 3 ball arsenal with:

Diamondback
Rattler
Python

Just from the videos I have seen, they are all very complimentary to one another.  I throw a Rattler and love it.  I ordered a second one just to have for later as well.

yea I was thinking about something like that, But maybe 3.5, DB, rattler.. the rattler seems like it would be great  for the later games, drier broken down conditions.. Like i said tho, if our pro shop is gonna clearance a few things I hope the rattler or reign is one of them..

The 3.5 is just a guess, or an idea of what I might like for the floods..  Only one house floods a 40' pattern around here and its not mine, so other that tournaments I wont be there..   But I might wait to see what new balls other companies have coming out this year as well..  When are the new lines/balls usually released?

The Rattler is pretty strong, so I'm sure too sure that would be a great option for the dry.  I think the Python might be closer.

mj,
In my opinion, I would go with a Wild Card for above the DB.  It is clean for a solid and it retains energy well (but it can still handle oil volumes decently if you square up at the line).  This would cover your heavy-medium heavy.  You have your DB for the medium range.  Below that, I would go with the python or Avalanche Slide (or green black pearl).  This would seem to cover almost every condition (other than really dry).  If you needed something less, you could go with a Slingshot.  I hope this helps.
Thanks,
Dennis Rhodes

gotcha.. I just dont want to get a ball thats similar to my DB which is drilled 3 3/4 right 3/4 down, 5 1/2 x 3 1/2 ,,  I really want a different look, do you think the rattler will be that skid flip im looking for?

For me, the Rattler is smoother than the Python.

man,  I bet theres some ppl out there that go through quite a few balls before finding the right one huh..   what would a 3.5 be used for in my set up of a DB and rattler? Just heavy oil only?

yea i was thinking that// We have one house that floods heavy to 41'.. Like so heavy that at the end of leauges  theres still more oil on the  lanes than any other house with fresh oil.  the only time I would bowl there is for city tournys..

Dumb question. But is a polished ball made to be able to ( in a sense ) ignore for the mostpart the front and mid lane conditions , in route to just get to the dry part of the lane and then snap?
