Wild Thing vs Radical Inferno
« on: March 30, 2010, 03:08:47 PM »
From what I can see on specs they are pretty similar balls besides the coverstock on the WT being stronger and causing it too hook sooner.  Am I right on this or am I way off.  Most of the specs are within .05 according to this site.  Has anyone rolled both?  I have the radical but can land a WT for 75 bucks + drilling.  Thoughts?  Comments?  Thanks yall!

I have both and the Radical left nothing but 10 pins for me. The Wild thing I thought was a must stronger ball over all. I have delegated the Radical to House no taps tourneys and the Peterson.

RG numbers are similar and the radical has a slightly higher diff. I have both the WC and WT and I think they roll similar to the early zones. The way they rev up and still get length and the way they read the break point. Thats just my opinion.

The Wild Thing will be much more forgiving on the lanes, whereas the Radical was truly "radical" for me. It got a little better when I knocked some of the shine off, however.

Skip the RI, one of the most doubtful releases from Brunswick in recent times. The cover was its problem, and the OOB finish. IMHO, it was/is something like EnMotion, but potentially more severe between skid and grip. VERY touchy, and weaker in oil than expected (and advertised).
With the OOB polish, the ball would be a nightmare for many players, suffering from over/under or just weak reaction at all. Drilling it stronger than usual and scuffing the surface improved things, but it was IMO not a success, no wonder it disappeared quickly (like the Intense Inferno before).

Hook potential being 160 for WT and 135 for Radical according to the reviews here.  I bought this radical back when I started hooking the ball because I liked the colors.  I know stupid reason to buy a ball, but was looking into the WT because of the deal I can get on it.  I'm going to be bowling on a PBA pattern league this summer and just trying to make sure I have something for each lane condition.  (Fury, NVS, Break s75, Gladiator Pearl and the radical)

One thing to keep in mind is that the published hook ratings are for the ball in "out of box" condition.  The Wild Thing comes from the factory at 2000 Siaair, while the Radical is polished.  So if you were to apply the same surface preparation to the Wild Thing as the Radical, you could narrow that 25-point hook rating gap somewhat.

I own a polished Wild Thing, and it's just as clean through the front part of the lane as my Radical was, but it's not nearly as skittish down lane.  The Wild Thing reads the midlane more consistently, but still has a strong arc at the break.

I LOVE my Wild Thing!!!!! The ball clears the heads very cleanly, and scatters pins everywhere. Mine is drilled 50 x 3 3/8 x 30. Late midlane rev then big left turn, I mean BIG. I would buy the ball for $ 70 all day long. 2 of my team mates now own one after seeing the ball roll.

Yeah these are new in box and 1st quality.  My proshop guy got a deal on them somehow and he''s still turning a profit on them for the shop

The ball is probably being discontinued because the price at many distibutors has dropped lately. I may order another one for the future.
