Title: I wanna see a....
Post by: Trubador on July 17, 2008, 01:36:08 AM
Twisted core with an Ultra Zone cover.  When is that coming out?!  I'm too chicken to get a Twisted Fury Solid because I'm afraid it will be too much like one of my Furies.  I would love to get a hybrid cover Twisted though.

What ball do you want to see?

I think the Ultra is a hybrid solid/pearl cover while the TF is all pearl.  *shrug* I may be wrong.

Looks like the Ultra is a solid/pearl swirl.

The Twisted Fury cover is different than the Ultra Zone Cover.  The TF is all pearl the UZ is solid/pearl hybrid.

"The Ultra Zone uses a Solid / Pearl Hybrid version of the EnMotion coverstock. EnMotion combines the best elements from our PowerKoil, Activator and N’Control coverstock systems to create good length combined with excellent mid-lane recovery and strong back-end hooking action."

My 2 cents -
The surface you put on it will make a bigger difference than whether it's a solid, a solid/pearl or a pearl. Brunswick have used more than a few solid/pearl combo that people thought were either solid or pearl. So have many other companies.

Buy the ball reaction, not "just" the ball.

I second that statement.

Unofficial Ballreviews.com FAQ (http://"http://home.mchsi.com/~s-cross-7-28-71/FAQ.htm")

I don't just buy a ball that gives me a reaction I already have.  That is why I am not interested in the TFSolid.  I think I have that covered.  I like the medium RG core, but want a bit stronger cover that can deal with some more oil and over/under. I usually just throw my Revs if I am caught in that situation, but it is sometimes too angular as opposed to the nice hard arc of the TF. I haven't had too much success with polished up Furies, and I haven't tried an 800 grit TF.

Whatever...  if you are good enough you can average 200 on any oil pattern with a house ball.  At any rate, thanks for taking the fun out of a thread.

taking the fun out of a thread?

Oh, you were just dreaming then ....
Next time don't dream so loudly you might make people think this was a public thread.

FYI
- change the surface and you change the reaction.
- Change the drill, especially on an asymmetric core, and you change the reaction.

Second that - IMHO you will not see much difference between a pearl and hybrid coverstock anymore. The surface prep will have more impact on the ball's reaction - and the best way to get more control out of an already drilled-up TF would be to knock the shiny OOB surface off, just like CharlesT suggested.
