fury pearl
« on: July 28, 2007, 02:27:18 PM »
Hey guys this is my first post here so sorry if this thread is in the wrong spot or if there is already a thread on this. I ordered a fury pearl from my local proshop and will be getting it whenever they get one in. I don't know too much about this ball other than what I have seen in the video from brunswicks site and ball descriptions. Right now i throw a red fuze if that helps. I was wondering what I should get the ball drilled to do. I could change things up from what I do now if i have to I just want to get the full potential out of the ball and use it for what it is good for. Any help would be great.

I usually drill the skid-snap balls 5" from axis above the fingers and all of them have rolled great. Nice and long, but not a jerk off the spot.  Thats my personal favorite layout.  Style in profile. When i get mine, thats what i'm going to do with it. Don't know much about the red fuze expect that the fury pearl would be stronger with the new cover and torsion core.  As a side note, since the ball hasn't been released yet, its kinda hard to compare it to other current balls other than brunswick's video/spec sheet. Hope this helps.

m1k3c123,

I've got the solid Fury, but have it at 1000 grit with a HIGH polish.  This would probably still be a bit smoother/stronger than a polished pearl, but the fury works great for me.

I have mine set up in a 5 X 3 1/2 with the pin below the fingers, weighthole on the midline inside the V.A.L. to reduce flare a bit.  Ball is strong, but is still smooth in its read of the lanes, very predictable.

From what I have heard, the Fury solid is very versatile and I am hoping the pearl version will be the same because I am looking to pick that one up also.

What reaction are you seeking from the Fury Pearl?

It might help us to give you better answers if you posted some more information about your game, such as ball speed, rev rate, current arsenal, etc.

To give you a good layout, you'd have to post your specs like Bracket Creep said, but in general your looking at a stronger ball in the Fury Pearl from what you have in the Raging Red Fuze.  I'd reccomend keeping the pin up on the fury pearl.  That should allow you to get a good match up right out of the box.  If the ball isn't strong enough you can give the ball some more surface to the tune of 1000 grit (white pad or abralon pad).  If it is too strong you may start with rough buff or take it down in grit, but apply polish.

If you drill it with a pin down layout, it may be more predictable at the breakpoint, but you may also suffer from too early a read.  If you throw the ball around 14 or 15 mph, like most people, a low pin layout on such a strong ball will cause the ball to burn up quickly and hit poorly.
