Impressed with the Goliath
« on: March 05, 2005, 07:17:52 AM »
For a while now, I've been combing the reviews to see what ball I should get to combat the wet/dry. In my research, I decided to buy the Goliath.

Here's the specs...

Bowler:

Lefty,
PAP is 5 1/4 out, 1/2 up,
Speed is roughly 15-17 mph ( I think...)
axis tilt is 45 degs.

Goliath:

4 inch pin, 3.6 oz top weight
Pin below the bridge, cg kicked out left. Aprox. measurements from PAP:
Pin 4 1/2", cg 3".

Here's the results...

Lane conditions
Wet heads, weak backends, my shot was up 8 on both lanes.

I threw a game before league started to get an overall feel of how the ball would react in this house. I started out right, playing 12 out to 8 or 9. Skid city. I didn't recover. I threw a strong ball in my arsenal on the same line to get a read on the ball... skid city. It didn't recover. After adjusting I found that the strong ball was skidding and jumping while the Goliath rolled evenly through the mids and had an even reaction in the backends. In three games, I made parallel adjustments to stay in the oil, from up 8 to up 10. The results were very good! I ended up shooting 214, 257, 257... my very first seven in this league.

Overall, my first impression with this ball is pretty positive.  I'll post more on it as soon as I have more miles on this ball.

Thank you, everyone, for all your suggestions and comments.  It really paid off in finding a good ball for the wet/dry conditions.
