Radical Inferno?
« on: March 16, 2008, 02:24:28 AM »
Does anyone know anything about the Radical Inferno?  I can't find any info about it (as I don't think it's a current ball).  A friend of mine has one that he is willing to part with for pretty cheap and I want to know if it is worth it and would be a good ball to add to my arsenal.  Does anyone have any experience with it?

Wasn't it discontinued 3 days after it was released?  If not it should have been

It seemed very hit-and-miss with the stock surface.  A lot of people found it very oil-sensitive.  Don't be afraid to adjust the surface.

i agree with shelley.
when i first got my radical i thought the ball was a complete turd.  It didn't do much or hit hard.
I sanded it down to 1000 and it was a whole new ball.  it was still fairly responsive to the dry, but it rolled and carried much better.  It was good for medum/dry and liked being played just inside the track for more straighter angles.

That ball was great drilled strong as long as you arent looking for it to be smooth when it hits the back. I had mine with 2000 abralon and that thing was very predictable, but it out hook most of the stuff in my bag

Yup, just to underline the former statements: if you drill one up, put the pin in a slightly stroner position than you'd normally do. The ball seems to need it. And the surface prep has been a trap for many users - at OOB, the ball woudl not handle those lots of oil Bruswick had advertised, over/under reactions were common as well as curses. But surface adjustments, e. g. hitting the ball with a 4.000 Abralon pad, seemed to improve overall performance considerably.

Ball is not a dud missile, but needs some brains to get it to work. Probably too much for average Joe Bowler. No wonder it disapperaed quickly, just like some other sharp polished pearls like the Blazing and Intense Inferno

I really hate this ball. It's still in my bag and still bring it to league. The odd thing about this ball is how terrific it is on the right condition and the right mood. Last week gambled and thought I had a good look. Usually this ball would only shine playing outside on short patterns but this time it was pretty tight so I played outside but more direct towards the pocket. My results were hitting the pocket but leaving 7's or 10's nearly every ball.

The layout on this ball is weak which I like. I don't have a ton of revs but decent revs. I like the ball to store energy down the lane no matter what the condition or ball is. So I got it drilled like most of my other balls...around 5" to the pap but the fingers above the pin. The cg is kicked to the right but there the distance from the pin to pap is only 1.5 inches.

I tried different surface preps on it. I thought the box condition was horrible. It reved up nice but did nothing down the lane if I couldn't find any friction. Took off the polish with a green scotch brite pad and polished it by hand. Then ran into a short pattern at league. Stood right and played near the ditch and shot well over 700. That was 6 months ago and haven't had anything to gloat about since. Recently tried 1000 abarlon and it was even more inconsistent then before. Polished by hand and it was better.

The overall reaction though is horrible. If anything it is a good light oil condition ball but hooks way too much on dry lanes if you have hand. Hits a little too much oil it hydroplanes. If I had to drill it over again I would drill it for a left hander and then throw it. That way it wouldn't do much of anything but at least I could get some consistency out of it. Really disppointed with this ball. This was my first Brunswick ball in 10 years and this ball really turned me off. Everyone I have seen that has thrown this ball has hated it. This includes a 220 average bowler I know could make a house ball look good and he struggled to shoot 500 when he had it. He also took the polish off and still hated it. I knew another good bowler that had one and could never do the same thing twice with it.

I have seen all the other infernos and they are great to good . Great being the Ultimate, Original and Absolute. Good being the Raging, Scorchin and Blazin. WTF were they thinking when they made this piece of garbage?

From the marketing buzz and announcements, this was supposed to be a polished pearl/angular ball for oily shots. Ijn itself, this is to fail, so no wonder noone liked the ball. Over-hyped, I'd say. The people I know who used it found it to be good on medium to medium-dry conditions - but a Punisher would have done the same... Great case of marketing gone bad.

I saw it looking real good on the pair next to me in league yesterday.

I think Diandra Asbaty likes it!

Mine rolled and carried a lot better once I took a pad and knocked the shine off.

I had the exact same experience. Great ball after the shine was gone.

I didn't like this ball either.  I had great reactions with all previous Infernos, especially the Absolute and the Smokin' and this ball didn't do much for me.  Surface changes, different houses, I never got matched up too it.  I know some who did like it, I wasn't one of them.
