Mastermind Intellect
« on: March 22, 2015, 11:51:06 AM »
I remember there was a lot of excitement about the introduction of the Mastermind Intellect last fall, myself included. (Instead, I chose to go with a much less expensive option at the time. Pity me, the fool.)

I've not seen many bowlers using it on tournament shots -- there was a guy whom I crossed with this weekend who used it on occasion as we were bowling on the Chameleon pattern.

How has the Intellect for performed for any of you who have used it on a sport-compliant/flat pattern?
Ball speed avg. (18.25 mph)
Rev rate avg. (400-428 rpm)

The more oil the better. I didnt use it much earlier this season because i didnt see enough oil on ths to play a comfortable line and stay on the right side of the head pin. Sold it and bought another one later at Christmas and the ball has been amazing. Seen a little more oil and the ball is much easier to control.

I hope to try it on a sport shot in a few weeks but depending on the pattern it may be too much. It is great for heavier oil/ Whatever they call the pattern it would be my first choice for flatter conditions.
…… you can't  add a physics term to a bowling term and expect it to mean something.

As Kidlost says it needs some oil to perform and can be too strong down lane for some of the lighter volumes some people see.  When there is oil an you need a quicker type response oilier lane ball it works very well.

Echo what they both said. This ball needs oil. I actually drilled another one right before the Scholar came out. I drilled this one weaker and loved it. 2nd match out had 299 and 800. Last night my Scholar had a bit too much angle 264, 237 changed to the Intellect to smooth it out a touch, 300 801. The ball is a monster

I'll jump on board here too. The Intellect offers as much (or more) down-lane motion as any solid I've ever thrown. As such, if you keep it at box finish, you really have to watch where and how you use it because the backend can actually be a bit too much for most people. What I've found is that the Intellect is at it's best when the backends start to soften up and I need something that can make it up the hill when everything else is starting to quit. When that happens, the Intellect is amazing!

I've considered changing the surface so that I get a smoother, more-controllable reaction earlier in blocks, but my original Mastermind already gives me that. As such, the Intellect is a perfect go-to ball when the Mastermind starts to burn up too much early.

Long story short, like any other ball, if you figure out when/how to use it, you're going to LOVE it! I plan on bringing mine with me to El Paso. I've heard the backends start to soften up a bit as the oil pushes down. If that's true, the Intellect should be just what the doctor ordered as the set moves along!
