Venturing back to Big B.....Twisted/Ultra advice
« on: March 10, 2008, 12:33:38 AM »
I just ordered the Ultra Zone and the Twisted Fury to go along with my Hammer Hawgzilla, Storm Paradiegm, and Visionary Slate Blue Gargoyle. After not being impressed with any of the Inferno line, and not really liking much since the Sapphire Zone from Big B,I thought I might give these 2 a shot. I have read the reviews on them. What I would like to know is does anybody have these 2 balls and how do they matchup together for you? Thanks.

The Twisted is cleaner through the heads and allows you to stay closer to friction with a nice move late. Great when you want to stay on an area of the lane that's been "dried out" due to play.

The Ultra is also pretty easy to get down the lane, but does start sooner than the Twisted because of the cover being a hybrid and the core is lower RG. Usually the first ball out of my bag. Strong arc to the pocket you can miss outside without a worry because it almost always gets back to the pocket.

To me, these two compliment each other very well and cover any lane condition that's not completely flooded side to side. Good luck.

Being that the Ultra Zone is a pearl/solid hybrid (mostly solid), and has a stronger core, I use it on fresher conditions. As the lanes breakdown, I switch to a Twisted Fury, which is pearl with a weaker core.

These 2 balls compliment each other extremely well.

Quite honestly, these 2 balls are pretty much all I have used over the past month. They just seem to match up better on what I am bowling on, than anything else currently.

Just looking at your arsenal, the Twisted will be fairly similar to your Paradigm. Maybe a touch lengthier. The Ultra will fit between the Hawgzilla and the Paradigm.

I hope this helps.

i have both.  the ultra is first out the bag, when the lanes start to break down and i am tired of moving, out comes the twisted.  they are a great 1-2 punch.

I was under the impression that unlike the Fury Pearl the twisted was really nice in the mid-lane for a pearl, and basically had a lot of torque.

As well, some people were saying it's a ball you can stay with forever even when the lanes start to get some carry down, but from what I'm hearing it seems like it's just a really good medium ball, not even a medium heavy. I've seen some of the video ball reviews and the reaction I've seen and what's described on the boards doesn't seem to match up. Is it because of the region you guys bowl in or something...just curious, because I was really excited about picking up and Ultra and Twisted as well considering I haven't thrown the Big B in a while...

I've had the ultra for about a month and just got the Twisted laid out my Ric hamlin(MR. RICO) himself last week.

Ultra 4 5/8 pin, pin 1" above center grip, CG/hole down 5" away.  PSA 45*
Twisted 5" pin pin 1/2 left of center grip AKA  RICO), no hole, PSA 60*.

Ric looked at a couple of balls and recommended the twisted over me getting another Ultra drilled pin above fingers.  The twisted got down the lane much easier and does cover more boards in the last 1/3 of the lane vs the Ultra, the twisted is not a skid snap ball.

The Ultra does start earlier and gets into a roll, but is not a arc and roll ball.  It can cover a wide variety of conditions, just not the flood or extreme dry.

Both compliment each other very well, if you need more back end, go to the twisted, if you need less length, out comes the ultra.  On a house shot they should be gold!

Motogp69,

First of all, the house that I bowl in would be considered quite slick. The Twisted with factory surface does go longer than most Brunswick balls, but it's not really a skid/snap reaction... more like a skid, then hard finish. It's not jumpy or hard to predict. It also works well with a duller surface where it does pick up the midlane earlier, and unlike most, still finishes pretty hard. Mine was real good around 2000, but I had other stuff that reacted similar so I took it back to close to factory finish. So, in my estimation it is stronger than most pearls, which usually need more friction to get started.

The Ultra is really a beast. It just starts sooner than the Twisted so I can move a few (3-4) boards inside and swing it out to the dry and let it finish. Very strong finish, that I would classify it as a "hard arc" shape. Since it's a hybrid, you could easily go more dull or more shiny and still like the ball in my opinion. I hope this answers your questions.
