Title: Mammoth vs. ... ?
Post by: FranVarin on January 21, 2007, 01:48:51 PM
Ok, with so much talk around the Mammoth being a good ball for the flood, I was wondering how it stacks up agains the venerable old Warp Zone?

The Swamp Monster got some pretty poor press in its day, I never threw one mostly because of the rep the ball had. But, I do have a Warp Zone that I use for the flood. It's drilled pin down just to the right of the mid line, cg and mb kicked a bit with a small x-hole near my PAP. This ball handles oil quite well, I really can't imagine anything else doing as well.

Any one care to weigh in?

consipirtor300,

Hmm...I did see your post on the Mammoth and that is what really got me thinking about it. I understand the coverstock tweaks you made to get the ball under control. I'm not sure I would have done that...I would be more inclined to sideline the ball and use it on the flood.

I'm blown away by your comparison in the differnce between the Warp Zone and the Mammoth. That is not to say that I don't believe you. I know how the Warp Zone behaves and I can only think about such a difference. Now, one thing does come to mind...according to what I read, the Mammoth is a particle version of the Activator. I remember the Raging inferno experiment...is this the same cover?

D Pat,

Thanks for refreshing my memory. So, I guess I should still expect the Mammoth to be more aggressive than that as well. Assuming that the only difference between the Activator Partilce coverstocks is Peral vs. Solid. Then I would expect the Pearl to skid further and finish harder than a solid as a general rule...core dynamics not withstanding. I get the sense from Conspiritor300's comments that the Mammoth is more ball than even the Swamp Monster which probably means it throws up sparks when it rolls!

The Mammoth uses a high load version of the cover found on the Impulse Zone.

The difference between a pearl and a solid cover is only about a board. When a company releases a pearl and solid version of a cover they tweak the strength of the cover too.

Believe it or not, the Warp Zone has about the same overall hook as a Strike Zone but the Warp will read the lane around the same area as the Mammoth with the Warp being maybe a hair earlier.

Who the hell said anything about the Infernos? Impulse Zone used a low load Activator Particle.
