Title: Mastermind Vs. Hyper Cell
Post by: ucocacola101 on December 19, 2013, 06:59:01 PM
I am looking into getting another ball. I have a high ball speed and i want something for heavy/long oil patterns. I am in a toss up between Brunswick Mastermind and Roto Grip Hyper Cell.

Any suggestions? How do the two differ?

If have to have it now, go with the mastermind. If u can wait 2 weeks get the hyper cell!

Wait 2 weeks and get the Hyper Cell.  The 7lb Nucleus weight block inside the ball has always hit like a Mack truck (still use a Rogue Cell when needed).  Throw in the MicroBite cover from the Defiant which is great on heavier oil for higher speed players and you have one awesome ball in the arsenal.

Here is the video that explains the Hyper Cell:

The ball motion of both will be almost identical. Go with the mastermind and save yourself $25. Plus in my opinion brunswick covers are a little more durable.

If you want the ball now, go with the Mastermind. If you can wait a few weeks, go with the Hyper Cell.

You can't really go wrong with either. Me personally, I love Roto Grip's "high performance" cores, especially the way the Nucleus and Paragon roll. So much continuation through the pins. Also the covers are very versatile and take well to changes.

Great shooting, Larry.

I do love the Mastermind, and I'm not biased at all! ;)

Either way, you can't go wrong. Both balls are strong and will chew through oil patterns. I personally will have the HyperCell because of the 7lb heavy rolling Nucleus and the Micro Bite solid cover. I have no need for two oil drinkers but I've drilled a few Masterminds and they are stupid strong. Price considered, Mastermind. If you can wait, Hyper Cell.

Mastermind is a no brainer with super strong performance and a $20 rebate!

Either. The Mastermind has more surface at box finish.

Also dont know if you are interested in dv8 but the endless nightmare is in the same class as the mastermind and hyper cell. I have seen a few guys in league throw the endless and that ball is beast mode all night long.

Who is worried about 20 bucks!? I mean really..

to a 'read in between the lines' consumer and a retail manager...the lowest price on the market for a he ball shows inferiority.

It's true, I'm just saying. The better product is never a "deal."  I know the sync didn't sell the way it was supposed to, and now that "rebates" are back, storm has a 20 dollar rebate now too.

The Sync didn't sell well for two reasons.  It was too strong of a cover/core combo and you could only use it for 4-5 frames. Plus, the Marvel S was a strong ball that most people could use for a sustained amount of time.

It is funny. The better product is the higher product. Learn something new every day. Then it is also interesting how you follow that by saying the better product didn't sell well and they now offer a $20 rebate. So who is worried about $20 I mean really?

Duh!! Yup! That's about the size of it, Larry!

As soon as I heard about the Sync, I was interested. Especially after I heard people comparing it to the VG!! One of my all-time favorite pieces. Trouble is, I have nothing to use it on,....on a regular basis. I still have a VG, with surface that I throw at tournys on heavy oil. Love the reaction!! It currently gets zero useage!!

So to purchase a Sync would mean I'm purchasing an expensive living room ornament; or I'd have to incur some serious weakening drill specs, along with surface reductions just to be able to use this ball.

Soooo, getting back to the original post: You can't go wrong with either ball!! I will admire them from afar..........

Glad I am not the only one bowling on ths floods. I am 16.5mph at the pins with 300-325 rev rate and I have to use a pin down train with 1500 grit straight down 10 when fresh, nobody hooking 20 to 5 on these lanes lol!.  Anyway, I use a totally defiant with 4k for my medium ball. Would a hyper cell or mastermind be a better step up?

The mastermind is by far the strongest ball ive ever thrown

Hey Larry MC,

I got to see a big-handed sub throw the mastermind for the first time last night in league play. I started with a polished Outlaw, but found it was too much ball and had to go to my hybrid Ultra-Sonic drilled pin down.

This dude had high speed and big revs, was able to loft the heads and actually go down and in with games of 278-222-235. The ball was impressive! But it really let's you know when it's time to find a new line, or put it up.

I may have to give it a second look. With a surface adjustment, this ball may be playable for me.

Hyper cell seems to be the more versatile from what I've seen out of both in person
