Lane conditions
« on: January 28, 2009, 04:56:55 AM »
Does the house that people bowl at leave a few lanes oiled for the league bowlers that come in to practice ? I can deal with it every once in a while but this is becoming way to often. Anyone else experience this situation where they bowl ?

We are full most of the time and don't allow league bowlers to bowl on the lanes once they are oiled. If you come in the next day all you get is what was left behind from the night before. Saturday & Sunday we oil early but the junior league gets on the lanes at 10:00 AM.

At the bowling alley I bowl at the only time the lanes are oiled is before league play. If I were running a bowling alley I would at least try to oil some lanes for you league bowlers that come in to practice. Maybe that's  asking to much from a bowling alley in these hard times. One thing is for sure that's a sure way to keep me away. Along with any other extra money I would spend there. I guess I'm the only one who feels this way looking at the replies.

Carlos, I totally agree with you on dressing the lanes, so that league bowlers can come and practice. Sometimes when I go to practice the heads are so burnt up that it rolls up in my back swing haha. When they are like that, you can't really practice, and work on things that you need to.

Thanks for your input. I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who runs into this problem. I guess the only answer is to call ahead of time to find out if any lanes have been oiled for league players wanting to practice. No wonder why bowling is falling off.

I think it is more than just oiling a few lanes, if business was so good that we had people coming in wanting to bowl in the afternoon we would without a doubt oil a few. Since most people work until 5:00 PM the only open play we get is mothers with a few kids or late afternoon birthday party as they time where league bowlers came in to practice is obsolete in my area.

I can understand that and that's a good point. I don't think it is asking to much for the owner of the bowling alley to have the mechanic to oil two pair for the league bowlers. Then have the mom with their kids bowl on the lanes that are burned up. They could care less about oil. I would think the pair that have oil should hold up for a couple of days. Maybe I'm crying about something that will never change. Thanks for the input.
