Anyone Throw an international Brunswick Active Zone?
« on: May 26, 2007, 11:44:18 PM »
I have had great success with the international Brunswick Zones (more than I have had with the U.S. stuff). I need a new oil ball and am considering one of the international Brunswick Active Zones. From the Brunswick video they appear to move, but was hoping to get some real-life feedback before buying one. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Clint

I just bought one while I was in Reno.  I managed to shoot 692 (playing a DEEP inside line) in doubles with it. So here goes.

They laid it out to flare.  And it does.  It almost manges to flare back around to the thumbhole.  But the pin is up for being in a 4" position, so it goes down the lane.  I can't say anything for the OOB surface, since they took it to 2000-grit from the 800 OOB, since the layout was so strong.  I woud say with the amount of flare, you wont need that dull of a ball unless you have zero revs.  The ball is great, and it is impossible to throw through the breakpoint.

Not to mention the cool colors.

Clint, this is a strong piece. I do not own one myself, but a fellow bowler bought one 3 weeks ago and I have seen it inj action during league play. OOB, a tough oil ball that will handle LOTS of oil and long patterns. I have seen the ball played on a 37' crowned pattern in league, and it sucked, since the oil was too thin - a sub 100 game was the result for stubbornly clinging to the "new bling ball in the bag". Even with Zero revs, you need oil in the heads or the ball simply rolls out with its grippy coverstock.

This said - yes, this is a recommendable piece for (much) oil. I guess it is OOB as strong as a Scorchin' Inferno, just a little rollier, or like an Awesome Hook.

Colors are outstanding, too. The color separation works really well on this one, and with its bold ornage it is easy to find on the rack
