Title: New ball/line hint?
Post by: JS on May 06, 2009, 03:49:34 AM
Just received my copy of BJI and on the inside page of the front and back cover there is a Brunswick ad that just says "Siege the day" and above that is a picture of a warrior type helmet, something like a Viking helmet without the horns.

Maybe a new high end piece/line? If I remember correctly, the Furies are dead this summer, and with the Rides replacing the Zones in the second row, there's space (and need) for something new.

I have not seen the Siege yet, however, I am told that in testing it is stronger than the Maxxx Zone. I hope I'm remembering this correctly.

I have always compared the Maxxx (reaction-wise) to the original Cell, but with a little more "kick" on the end. If the new offerings are as good as they are rumored to be then Big B should create some real excitement. Not too much longer to wait...

If it's stronger than the Maxxx Zone, god help me. All that ball did for me was roll out, or with polish, skid for a mile. Obviously just a bad match up, though. All my other BigB stuff has been great. My Maxxx wasn't even drilled very strong, just a 4 3/4" pin over the ring finger. I'd have to drill a Siege with a 6" pin. Lol.

Either way, I can't wait! I already have a Rattler (blem) at the shop waiting for me, so i'm happy.

Why on earth would anyone need something stronger than a maxxx zone?  Mine has less than 10 games on it, and almost has no use.

They better get rid of that crap Torsion Core, or i will start buying other equipment.

That's the only reply I usually get. It's OK for every single comment that Inverted makes has to have the Lane#1 name in it?? Maybe my comments weren't meant for anyone to really read into but were merely for comedic purposes like Inverted 1's....

BrunsDustin,

I have the same problem with alot of the big hook potential balls. Not enough oil. I usually put a mirror gloss on the ball with The Secret Sauce and I have great success with them..

I really like these super strong balls shined up with weaker drillings.

Keep an open mind..

If you bowl a lot of tourneys or regionals you will find they work quite well.

Thanks, lets get back to talking bowling. I love the new ball season. Brunswick has a Siege coming, Storm has a Reign - let the fall league wars begin

CoachLefty & BrunsDustin,

My Maxxx needed some surface work before it was very useful to me. It was way too dull from the factory. After getting it to 2000 it's much better. It's still not an every day ball, but on the right conditions it's very good. I did have a reasonably good look with some light polish, too.

Time will tell as to whether "stronger" in this case means earlier roll or just more late movement. I've heard some positive things about the new releases from those who know, and kept everything to myself, but once they start advertising in Bowler's Journal it's no longer a big secret. We shall see pretty soon.

I don't drill balls for a living but the last three balls I have bought from Big B were made in Mexico and had NO problems so I don't know why all the blems comments come about.

The only made in Mexico Big B ball that I have had was the Twisted Fury Pearl and although I am not a Big B fan as I was back in the 1980's & 1990's at which time I thought Big B made the best balls there were, especially the Quantum line-up, I totally loved that Twisted Fury Pearl. I honestly did. Then again how could I have not have loved it with it's diamond like core and rolling like a Lane 1 ball.

Seriously though with all kidding aside, I really did love that ball and don't understand why the twisted line didn't go over that well. Am I the only one that those balls worked well for?

Not at all. I think some people just didn't want to listen to all the advice that said to lay them out stronger, and since they all had "690 revs" they should be able to get the ball to flare plenty. When they didn't hook off their hand and keep going they cried "foul".

No, you weren't, but bowlers have a "Flavor of the Month" mentality these days.  They'd rather have the Shiny New Release than something that might actually work well for them.  At least that's what I'm seeing here.

Me personally,
I wish every ball was black with dark logos... I don't really like all these bright colors on performance balls. If I wanted fancy I would buy a White Dot..

Just like many lines from all companies the Fury line all together was hit or miss. Everyone that I talked to that had any Fury either loved it or hated it. I know I had to throw my Fury completely different then anything else I have. I did not try any of the Twisted Fury's however. I saw a lot being used though.

I think notclay may be right in that the twisted line-up needed to be layed out strong and if a person did, the ball would work well. In thinking back, I can recall Ric Hamlin telling people more than once to lay out the ball strong and it would work. As mentioned before, worked great for me.

Second that. I suppose it is the coverstock's nature that was introduced with the Octane coverstocks - it slides very well as long as there is just a little oil on the lane, but the traction upon friction comes quickly. A strong layout was necessary to make e.g. the Radical Inferno work, and taking the polish off of it was another vital step. The Furies were similar, and the Twisted Furies low diff. core also allowed, even called for, strong layouts.
