Title: New balls
Post by: MTD300 on May 18, 2009, 08:07:18 PM
So I saw all the new releases in action last night. Its going to be an expensive summer.

Siege looks SICK. Brunswick have got that top end ball that hooks a ton in the back with no sign of quitting.

Wild thing, to me looks like just another pearl. Pretty skid flip for a brunswick ball but might need the shine knocked off slightly with 2000 or something.

Python looks like a Radical Inferno but rolls so much better

The Python has a Radical Inferno color scheme? That would be sweet.. Just hopefully not so yellow.

I'm sure the Wild Thing will at least be stronger than a Ride, total hook wise.

The Siege, spec wise, sure does sound strong. I hope it's not as bad as MY experience with the Maxxx.

I can't wait! Expensive summer for sure.

Which line will the Python be in?  I was thinking the same as the Rattler but I think then the Siege would be alone in the Pro Performance line, I believe.

I think the Seige is gonna be alone replacing the Twisted Furys and the Python will probably be in the same line as the Copperhead and Rattler.

I'm 99% sure that's what it will be.

Siege = High Performance
Python = BVP

The Seige will be in the Pro Performance line (Twisted Furys) and
the Python will be in the Advanced Performance line (Rattler, Copperhead).

I see a Black/Electric Green Avalanche in our futures - will it have the Red/Black Monster core?

Still using the same core in the Avalanche Series, introducing PK18 Pearl to the mix.

By the way, that picture does it NO justice. Not sure if that's one of them, but we are redoing several pictures that we feel do not best show the actual balls that we are producing. Some of these early pictures are from sample balls done on the first small run, before we've had a chance to make any adjustments on how we really want them to look once we start making the actual large quantity runs.

Stay tuned.

And, just to be clear, the Siege will be all by itself as the new Pro Performance Line until we move forward and add to that line as time goes by. Also, we are keeping the Maxxx Zone in the High Performance Line and adding the Wild Thing to that price point as we expand on the Wild name. And yes, the Python is the newest reptile added to the Advanced Performance Line with the Copperhead and Rattler. And also for clarity, the new Avalanche is a pearl version of PK 18 and using the same core as the others.

Regards,

RoB LaW

I've seen the first German test balls of the new releases last Friday (my pro shop is run by an amateur staffer), and both the Python and Wild Thing have much visual appeal. I was surprised that the Python has both the EnMotion pearl cover and an Inferno-type core, which make it more or less a Smash Zone with a slightly higher RG (the Maxxx Zone core), if I remember the drill sheet correctly. The ball, in blue and yellow pearl, looks great, though.

What can NOT be said about the Siege. This ball wil have to sell through perfoemnace, it us IMO one of the ugliest things I have ever seen. I even cannot tell what color it actually is - it is supposed to be a very dark grey, but the one at the pro shop had a sick purple-grayish tint, and the white phazing/curing streaks do not add to the ball's appeal. It looked a bot like an Columbia Action, just without the silver, and with VERY boring red engravings.
Performance-wise, it gets a thumb up, though - a matte Brunswick ball with actual back end and continuation. Not as long and angular as a Virtual Gravity, as a benchmark, but not as rolly/mid-lane oriented as earlier matte high end balls. Could become interesting...

Curious about the first reviews about it, and how it does in sales.

Interesting. So the new Avalanche Pearl will be stronger than the old Blue/Silver then?!? Not sure if I want that!

So I'm just about to layout and drill a staff players seed balls. Didn't realise the Wild Thing was symmetric.

Incase anyone doesn't know.

Wild thing = Paragon Core and Connexion cover. Low Rg higher diff.
Siege = Mace core and recoile cover. Aysymmetric.

Something official about the Wild Thing:

ConneXion Reactive
2-Color Pearl
Red / Silver Pearl
Hardness: 76-78
Factory Finish 4,000 Micro Pad

Core Dynamics @ 16#
Two-component Symmetrical Core
RG max: 2.514
RG min: 2.469
RG diff: 0.045
Average RG: 2.6 of 10

Performance
Hook Potential: 160
Length: 110
Typical Breakpoint
Shape: 95
Chart Position: R - 3

What makes me wonder is the 95 breakpoint shape... at 4.000 Abralon?

Sorry if this is a stupid question.  But...

When Brunswick is talking about the 4000 grit Abrasive pad.  Is this Abralon and they just do not want to use the term Abralon?

Thanks,
Jeff

---------------------------------------------------

Brunswick has found a different (micro pad) abrasive than abralon. It's more durable, and they will be making it available in the very near future.

Regarding the angularity of the Wild Thing, I heard it from someone who has thrown it, and BELIEVE IT. I can't wait for mine to arrive, because the Wild Ride has been money for me.

Ah, cool info. But I wonder much more about the 95 - with an unpolished surface...

My teammate used the Seige and Wild Thing last week on Scorpion during my PBA experience league.  The Wild Thing is very angular at the box surface.

The Seige was used the first game on fresh and was very strong/smooth.  Once the pattern opened up the Wild Thing was right at home!

Looks like two winners for Brunswick.

I recently put my Wild ride at 4000 abralon to match up better with a particular lane surface. After a few shots it literally looked like it had been polished. A very close reaction to the familiar rough buff finish, but a little more predictable in my opinion.

Stats not too disimilar to Total Inferno (bit more length and bit more angular with the WT).

I never got on that well with my Total Inferno I have probably only 25 games on that ball, just unable to match-up with it OR there are always better balls in my arsenal that match up. (I haven't given up on my TI yet, I WANT to like that ball)

Thanks for the post dizzyfugu - All is revealed, the pdf pretty well explains the 95 breakpoint angle Is there a new breakpoint angle scale coming? I recall Brunswick extending the hook scale when new releases went off the old scale.

If the Wild Thing is anything like my Total, I will fall in love all over again...My Total has been my favorite ball in my bag for years. I can't wait to give this ball a throw...

I've been curious is there anywhere to get a look at the new core designs?

I also like the sound of the Avalance....and the colors used on that ball make it that much more appealing...

Good stuff Big B, hopefully we will see more of the Big B on tour next year...it really was a shame that Brunswick regularly was shut out on TV, other then when the ladies got their appearances...
