Title: OK... Shark Pattern (B)... Drilling something new today...
Post by: BrunsNick on March 01, 2005, 07:25:09 PM
But what?! I was thinking about drilling a Raging Inferno with the Rico1 layout, possibly an Impulse.

Synthetic heads, wood backends... *sigh*

Last year we bowled on A and it played REALLY dry. This year we are bowling on the long pattern, and I'm not sure whether it will be B1, B2, etc. Regardless, I've struggled with Pattern B.

Options are limitless, I stock most of the lineup, with the exception of a few. Anything else can be ordered and had Thursday. I leave Friday for the tournament.

Nick heres what I would do. Limit it to 2 balls. Bring both. So raging and Impulse.

Its all on personal preferrance. If nick wanted, he could drill up a target zone and throw that.

Nick why and how have have you struggled with B?? Most of the stuff we have done for that shot is pin in ring or over ring and cg at about 60 degrees. For your rev rate maybe pin in middle finger. That still gets me back to my original question.

just play the channel with a pin under bridge impulse. those wood backs and your revs will take care of the move. but you might have to slow it down in order not to get caught up in too much slide from the oil. have fun though.

I would go Impulse as well, 4 to 4 1/2 inch pin, strong MB

I like the Ultimate on the long pattern with wood backends. The ball will save in the heads then release in the backends. But I would still drill the impulse (just as insurance).

I think the heads are Guardian, I just noticed that there are no dots on the lanes 6 feet out like normal.

Ahh the udder reality of the equation is physical game. Nick that hurts, especially from a member of the "family" and not the "Nation".

Yep, I have a Classic with the RICO1, rolls better than Pillsbury.

It isn't a matter of physical game, I'm dead on money right now. Paul just wants to wave the attention flag.

I don't want to overuse the RICO1, but then again I don't have a Particle ball with the layout. Right now, I have an Impulse laid out, but I'm debating whether to order a Raging instead.

If the backends are crisp like last year, then my Absolutes and Classic will reign. If they are not, then I better be prepared with more surface. I have an IZ right now, drilled to go longer n strong (for particle)

GOSH!

And to Shocker, I'd have to talk more about the layout with Ric and Bob before trying something out like that.

I'm not trying to wave the attention flag, just a few things I noticed Monday night while  bowling next to you. Maybe I'm wrong but u sure did leave a lot of 10 pins. And u were "maximizing your abilities" right?

Everyone was leaving solid 10s, not just me. We won 3, thats all that matters.

I think for your birthday this year I'll get ya some fresh produce from the grocery store. Some nice guavas, apples, pears, and of course, sour grapes.

I'd rather have a sweet bike that I can take it off some sweet jumps with.

Don't mess with me, there is this gang here that wanted me to join because they heard I'm pretty good with a bow staff.

Nick, I've had a decent amount of success on B on a variety of lane surfaces.  Do me a fave and post your specs (axis pt., axis tilt, revrate, ballspeed) or drop me a pm and I'll see if I have any insight. Later.

PAP 4 3/4 x 3/4" up
Axis tilt 45-50 degrees
About 18mph off the hand, 450rpms

I'm pretty sure the Classic Zone and Absolute will steal the show, I just want something with a little more oomph.

Didn't drill anything today, a little too busy, but I am leaning towards the Impulse Zone.

Given that info Nick, I'd tend to agree with the Impulse zone for you on the fresh Pattern B, drilled roughly a 5inch pin to PAP, with the PSA 2 3/4 to 3 inches from your PAP, pin down in your grip, even in the palm if you like that layout.  That would look something like a 5inch x 25-45 degree layout.  I have been using the Track Asymmetrical layout chart for these high mass bias differential zones, which is where the 5 x 2 3/4 came from.  Its basically setup for medium skid with heavy roll on the mids/backend.  I think that type of layout will give you the most room to play with, helping your naturally skiddish release (40 degrees of axis tilt= really clean through the front) lose axis tilt faster = you striking more.  Im sure you knew alot of this already, I just went into a little more detail for others who might read.  Lemme know what your do. :0

I went with an Impulse Zone, RICO1 layout, flare reducing hole 4" right of COG.

On my way to Sutter Creek now!
