Old Burgundy Zone - anyone remember it?
« on: November 21, 2006, 10:40:55 AM »
My dad dropped one of these off at the house the other day.  Deep burgundy color with 'ZONE' in yellow lettering.  Yellow pin, also.  I've looked around and can't find any reviews on this ball, they don't even list it on the Brunswick website.

Anyone remember it?

I sure do. Very good ball for its time. Solid Particle (i think it was a high load) Its 1 of 3 Zone Proactives of the time. I think the order they were released was Navy Blue, Burgandy, then Teal (Azure). All 3 complimented each other on the lanes. You can still find them all NIB on ebay.

Came out at around 1997, very nice med to med-heavy oil ball.

Thats the one that Michbowler is asking about, the 2nd link. Your right, however, about the year they came out. Im still thinking about my Track Synergy Pearl that I just got which came out in late 96 early 97.

the burgundy zone came out in 1995 along with the black amber zone. brunswick specifically designed these two balls for the type of lane conditions that the pba was using at the time. only problem was that the pba changed their lane maintenence program and these balls didn't get the reactions brunswick was looking for. neither was a big seller. the burgundy zone used the core from the rhino pro le----the same core that would appear later in the johnny petraglia lt-48 gold. the coverstock was powrkoil 15---reactive, not particle.

I happen to still have one. Back then, I averaged 214 with it (for the year) and I liked it a LOT (obviously). I am bowling on drier lanes right now and am thinking about using it again.

If its a Reactive, then wouldnt the cover be a pearl instead of a solid look?

Mine is a ProZone (burgundy) and it's as solid as anything I've ever owned. No notice of anything that looks like "pearl".

That's the one.

Ya figure it would be a dry lanes ball now?

(Did I mentioned 'undrilled'?)

No, and you didn't mention the weight, either.
