3. Calcite
--copper (old penny) at 3.5
4. Fluorite
5. Apatite
--window glass or typical knife blade at under 5.5
6. Orthoclase
--streak plate or good steel file at over 6.5
7. Quartz
8. Topaz
9. Corundum
10. Diamond

With this new scale, does that mean that Legends/Lanemasters cannot use diamond particle anymore as it would seem that diamond would rate too high on the new scale?

I "heard" and only "heard" but from a dependable ball driller the only companys particles that pass is Storms and that no ther company particles are within requirements.

Similarly, I've heard that the new hardness rule will affect very few balls.  Only a rumor, though.

Since their particles are industrial diamonds, I'll give you one guess ...

We do not have the tools to test yet (coming soon), but we believe every ball in our current line passes their requirements.

I know a trend a few years ago was to use Mica. There are various different minerals in the Mica group, all ranging from 2.5-3 on the scale thus all these would pass.

If Legends do indeed use Diamonds (and Diamond Particle isn't just a fancy marketing name) then they will fail the test. By quite a long way. It wouldn't suprise me, they already fail the PBA's hardness test based on the Sur-D scale. Quite ironic really. Their base shell is too soft for the PBA and their particles are soon to be considered too hard for the USBC. I feel for Borden and co.
