Opinions on Smash/R
« on: September 10, 2003, 09:32:36 PM »
I am thinking of picking up a Smash/R but want everyone's take on the ball. To those who have one or had one. What did you like/dislike about the ball?? What kind of reaction does it have?? Lane conditions used, etc....

Thanks

How am I supposed to knock all 10 down with one ball?!?

I had one that i just sold I just could never get the kinda consistency that i was expecting out of it not a bad ball by any means but i would go with a frenzy or a screamr i have both and they both are muck more consistent with the same hitting power

I have a SmashR that is drilled with CG on PAP, and the pin on a line between the ring finger and the PAP.  This ball was supposed to be for Sport patterns, and it's been money for me on these conditions, but I have also found it to be useful for smoothing out side-to-side and front-to-back wet-dry conditions.  Given the "trick ball" layout, it's never the first ball out of the bag, but I wouldn't be without it for tournaments.

Oh yes.  Bob's point about the mellowing out of the reaction is well taken.  So if you're going to leave it in box condition, I'd highly recommend putting a coat of Doc's Magic Bowling Ball Elixir on the ball.  This seemed to work for my SmashR.

Hope this helps.

The look of the SmashR out of the box was almost similar to the Inferno, maybe even stronger.  However the SmashR mellowed out very quickly, and I also had the experience of not really knowing how it would react on varying conditions.

Bob and others,

I'd suspect that because the SmashR comes dull, it absorbs oil very rapidly. This will make it shine up with use and kill or reduce the reaction very quickly, relative to polished balls.

I also have to believe that if it were treated with something like Doc's ELixir to limit the oil absorption and it were kept at its 800/1000 grit dull out-of-the-box surface, it might very well last longer.

Upon re-edit: I didn't see that Pooter Boof already indicated a process, and thru experience of what I suspected. Oops!

i thought the monster smashR was a great ball. i kept mine dull( wetsanded 600 grit )and used it when my swamp monster was too aggressive and my monster screamR wasn't aggressive enough. i did notice it's reaction tamed down somewhat after awhile. a resurface down to 220 grit and then bringing it back to 600 grit usually worked. the inferno is more aggressive and in my opinion a better ball.

Well, Greg - I guess I'll have to get me one, 'cause the Smash/R is one of the very BEST balls I've ever used.
Now - it's NOT a hook monster, and it hates carry down, and it has to be kept clean. If you give it what it wants, though, it is a fantastic ball!

I have had my SmashR for a few months now, and I love it.. Like mumzie said you do have to keep it clean though.. But my hook has actually been getting bigger and better since I got it.. I would definitely recommend it..
