Polished Ultimate Inferno
« on: January 26, 2006, 07:33:24 PM »
Hi

Any information about myself is in my profile.

Just wondering what lane conditions might suit a polished Ultimate Inferno? I have a Rampage to be drilled, although I'm still not quite sure how to get that drilled yet. But would a 1L drilling for the Ultimate be ok?

I bowl on a medium oil house shot, which breaks down to medium-light after about the 2nd game.

Thanks

Andrew

I'd say the ball will be/do too muchz. 1L is a strong layout, and you need oil with the UI, even a polished one, to make it work. I'd rather go with 2L or even a weaker layout, or you will never get the ball to the pocket "alive" with a decent release.

Remember: the UI has basically more grip than a pearl ball like the OI or ZC. Therefore, with your style, I'd consider it even with a polish to be a medium-oily ball.

As a ball alternative, I think an OOB Ambush would be a better base for what you want to do, but even this one might be too strong. Alternatively, a Nemesis with a high grit finish could be an option, too, since it has a weaker solid PK18 coverstock, a higher RG for delayed energy delivery and less flare than the UI.

A polished Ultimate will still be very strong. But you'd get some length with it also. As scottie said, it's one of the best balls ever.

I had a polished UI once and I wasn't to happy with it.  mostly played it on med oiled lanes.  yes I was getting strikes but i wasn't happy the way it rolled to the pocket because it was just burning out.  the ball needs oil in order to maximize it to it's full potential.  I resurfaced my UI by sanding it down to 400 and applied the rough buff.  my UI is drilled with pin under ring finger 2 inch above slightly to the left of the cg.  on a med surface, i can only use this ball for 1 game.
