Avalanche Surface Adj.
« on: April 06, 2009, 01:09:09 PM »
Hi all,

I'm asking you opinion on how to get the most diverse reactions out of my Avalanches (Solid: 6" from axis, Slide: 5.5" from axis, Pearl: 5.5" from axis and all pin up)

Currently, the solid is at 4000 + rough buff, the slide at 500 + rough buff, and the pearl at 4000 + factory polish + boat polish + some other crazy polish.

The thing is, I want all of these to remain at the very very VERY least hooking end of my arsenal. Even the pearl becomes too much ball after about a dozen games on a typical THS.

Stats:
Speed: 18 +/-
RPM: 375-400

Thanks,

Jared Wolf

My 2 cents:

Take the polishes off the pearl. Reset the sanding to 4000 grit Abalon. Get a Trizact white pad. Here are a couple of places that have it:
http://wwhardware.com/catalog.cfm/ProductID/3M5XNHH2T%20A00M
http://www.specialtytools.com/product_info.php?products_id=5494

The white pad is much finer than 4000 Abralon.
Next get one of the polishes with a slip agent. Right now I like Valentino's UFO as it's easiest to put on and take off again. Powerhouse Delayed Reaction or Neo-Tac's Control-It will also work.

These will polish the ball to a high gloss, if you follow the directions, AND they will increase length AND DECREASE the backend and decrease the overall hook.

This is the most extreme method of decreasing the amount of overall hook and decreasing the backend on any resin ball that I know about.

Control-It and Delayed Reaction need to be sanded off to be removed. I suggest 600 grit sandpaper or the equivalent.
UFO can be removed by a small application of Valentino's Resurrection, a surface refresher.
