I'm Gonna Finally Drill My OI...Advice?
« on: June 21, 2007, 10:28:14 AM »
Titles says it all.  The South Regionals are coming around my area so I'm gonna drill my Original.  Ball has a 3" pin with 3.8 oz. of top weight.  What I'm looking for is a smooth, versatile piece that would help me read the lanes and know if to go up or down in ball strength to get the right look.

Alright I apologize.  I got a message from a user I'll name anonymous calling out my average in my profile, saying it wasn't justifiable even though he/she knows nothing about me.  Then to see another user make fun of it really set me off.

Ok a little more about me:

I'm a low end cranker, 380-400+ rpms, I track high and have a 5 1/2 over 1/2 up PAP.  My favorite line is between 3rd/4th arrow and i love to jump in whenever the shot allows it.  I'm not great at playing straight, but if I have to, I'll do it.

Current Equipment:

Big One 6 1/2 X 5 pin over middle finger mass bias strong
Angular One (1) 6 X 5 pin way above bridge mass bias 90 degrees
Angular One (2) 5 X 4 pin above ring mass bias 70 degrees (Fav. layout)
Red Zone same layout as AO #2
Vapor Zone 5 1/2 X 5 pin below bridge mass bias 70 degrees
Classic Zone same layout as BO
SR300 same layout as Red Zone
Time Zone 4x5 pin next to ring, mass bias 80 degrees

I'm also got a blank Fury, Red Zone and Impulse Zone that want to drill before these tourneys in the next few weeks.

I'm looking for a smooth predictable roll thats helps me feel out the lanes and know if i should throw a stronger or weaker ball.  I was thinking pin below the fingers, since i don't have many.  I know I have alot of equipment but i've always believed on having a piece and not need it than needing piece and not having it.

The patterns i'm looking to bowl use the cheetah, chameleon and viper patterns, all of which i've bowled on before.  All houses are synthetic, all of which i've bowled at before.  I had done so well in the only two regionals i've bowled in, i want to continue that as well and make sure i have the right ball with the right look.

Any other questions?

I've had a few OI's and they've all rolled great.  I use them as my predictable benchmark ball and typically the go-to ball on medium patterns.  I've used them on tough sport patterns in tournaments as well as heavier patterns and have had success on all of them with different surfaces as well.

I've stuck with 45* and 60* patterns with pin above ring finger around 4-4.5" Pin to PAP and couldn't be happier with the reaction.
