Why can't I replace my Impact Zone????
« on: April 18, 2004, 06:40:55 AM »
When I first dropped down to 14 lbs I purchased several used balls to play around with. One of these was an Impact Zone with what looks like several hundred games on it. I think I paid $40 shipped for the ball. It's drilled pin next to ring and cg in span. I bowl very well with it on a longer fresh house pattern. I can stand way left and send it out over the 15 board at the arrows to around the 7 board at the breakpoint and crush the pocket until the lanes break down. The ball gives me area and carry like you wouldn't believe.
I like to play with new equipment and have probably tried about 8 different balls this season. Of these the ball I have had the most success with is a Sonic X. I can play a nice shot from about 12 at the arrows out to about the 7 board at the breakpoint and score very well on a medium house shot. There are times when the Sonic isn't quite enough ball and that is where I have run into problems. Everything I have drilled up that is stronger than the Sonic either just plain hooks too much to keep the ball right of the head pin (Vortex 1, Sharp Blade), or over/unders ( Elixir Pearl, Plum Power Groove). What is so unique about the Impact Zone that allows it to give area when no other aggressive balls will.
Any thoughts are appreciated.

Louie,

My guess would be that the high RG of the core (2.64) and the strength of the PowrKoil 18 coverstock is what makes the Impact Zone unique today. Perhaps you should drill a Bruiser for length. Same coverstock but lower RG in the Bruiser. Or try to get a used Impact Zone.

Or maybe even a Time Zone.  Same cover but a higher RG weight-block.  Using a weaker layout on it could also probably negate the asymmetrical qualities and give you something closer to your Impact zone, but I wouldnt bank on it :0

Yes I loved the Impact Zone too!!!  In fact anyball with that core I loved!

Pro Zone Violet, Impact, Battle Zone Bullet, and Bowl America Atomizer!

That powerkoil 19 in impact zone had a lot of mica in it!

I now have both a BZ Bullet(pk 17) and an Atomizer with that core above in it!
However Atomizer is pearl PK 18 I've been told!
