Fury vs Blast Zone
« on: March 17, 2008, 01:53:23 AM »
I have a Fury drilled for length at 4000 abralon and I love it on my THS.  I need a real oil ball though, and was thinking of getting a Fury with a 2" pin and putting the pin under fingers with the CG at 45 degrees and leaving the surface OOB.

It seems when people on this board are asking for a good ball in the oil, that the consensus recommendation for a reactive non-particle ball is the Blast Zone instead of the Fury (or someone will say get a Cell).  I don't really need this ball for my THS, but for a PBA Experience league.  Should I be thinking Blast Zone or Fury?  I love the Fury Line, but really haven't tried any other Brunswick products... unless you count Morich as a Brunswick product LOL.

I am coming back to the sport after not having bowled for 22 years, so I have spent this season playing with all the new equipment that is out.  The last ball I threw in league before this season is an LT-48 in 1985.  I am a medium speed, medium revs, medium track tweener.  Par bowler.  I don't really have a preferred line, nor have I measured actual rev rates and ball speed.

Prices are pretty nice right now.  I'd like to get some advice on a ball and drillings, that is usable on some of the longer and heavier oil patterns.  I'm mostly concerned with the shark and scorpion because I don't feel like I have anything that can deal with that much oil.  Maybe I'm too concerned and just want to buy another ball... I dunno.

At any rate, I am leaning towards another Fury, with a midlane hook and backend drilling, but may try the Blast Zone.  I'll talk to my driller as well, but was looking for some Brunswick community input first, since I know he is going to recommend a Morich ball.

Cell = $124
Fury = $119
Blast Zone = $114
Fury Pearl = $99
Mammoth = $91.99

The Fury drilled strong and left dull handles more oil. The Blast Zone has been popular because of the hybrid cover matches well on most house shots. On the PBA experience you'd probably do fine with either one, but last summer when I bowled those patterns the Fury was one I could use more often.

Surface prep will be the key with both of them, but if both had the same surface, the Blast Zone will be a little longer and slightly more angular.

I have used both drilled strong on heavy oil (non-house shot) and the Blast Zone rcovers a lot better and it hits a lot stronger. That is said for me and all of the ones I have drilled for customers.

Thanks guys..  I think I am going to wait and see.  I'm not bringin it like Tommy Jones or anything, so I'll probably try to throw straighter and trap the pocket old skool style with my Awesome Revs.  It's drilled more for control/forward roll.  If that doesn't work out, I'll probably get another Fury, drill it strong, and chase the oil.  I don't really have an idea how to attack the patterns, so this should be fun.

Freakin10Pin, I see you have a 400 grit Mammoth.  When do you throw that thing LOL?

Whelp I managed to get my hands on a NIB Fury for less than 100 bucks so I bought it.  I can't help it.  I'm a ball hog.  I even got a kitchen pass from the wife to do it this time LOL.

Is pin under, 5.5" pin to PAP with CG at 45 degrees the way to go?  Should I leave it OOB or do a pre-emptive strike on the cover?
