I currently own a White Dot and a XXXL. I cant throw my white dot due to it being 13# which is way to light I tend to drop it in the right gutter when shooting the 10. My XXXL tends to grip the lane much better. I was wondering. Would a Target Zone Have a little flare to it at the end and if so would it still grip the lane somewhat? The XXXL seems to be the only ball I can throw right for spares. I would like something new.

It won't grip as much as the XXXL since it's only a pancake core, but they can hook. I use mine on dry lanes. If you throw it with side roll the ball will move (dependin on oil), but if you throw it with forward roll it's not gonna move.

Brunswick....'Nuff said.

I have alot of other spare balls around here but the XXXL seems to be the most successful. It was a gift. I am thinking of trying a traditional spare ball.
-
well my BEST advice would be learn to throw the ball STRAIGHT, instead of trying to hook the ball up the gutter. You dont want to throw the ball at the gutter and have it hook INTO the pin, you want the ball to travel STRAIGHT at it.

So your advice is to purchase a 15# Target Zone and throw it straight up?
-
not straight up the gutter, across the lane. But i mean....your trying to throw the ball so that it goes towards the gutter, then hooks, right? What I am saying is it should go straight at the pin....you know what...I'll make a visual, they explain better.

I have not tried that yet. My son's friend gave me the XXXL and White dot when he quit bowling last month. I used to used a Clear Gargoyle.
-
I know what you mean. My version of straight up is straight at the pin from wherever you feel comfortable.
-
But im talking ball wise. A target zone sound good?

your trying to do the first picture. the ball should not need to grip at all, it should go straight like the 2nd picture.

Yes You are right BK thats what I have to do with the XXXL

You could always take a Target Zone and sand it down to like 400 or 600 then put a factory finish polish on it if you're having trouble with it "fading" into the gutter on your 10 pin spares. I've done this on a couple of plastic balls of my own over the years that seemed to just "keep going" when I felt I rolled them well and on the proper angle.
