purpose of a weight hole

Hi,

Can someone explain the purpose of a weight hole?  I always thought it was to make a ball "legal", but have since heard other wise.

two purposes, one is to bring the ball back to legal static weights, the other is to fine tune the reaction.  Depending on size and location, you can increase/decrease flare, get the ball to start up a little sooner/later, etc.
