Lefty
STROKER/tweener
Radical Inferno
Drilled Pin left of ring, CG stacked under, small X-Hole.
Lanes were THS, fresh for the most part.
In all honesty, this ball had the exact same reaction as my Equation, and thats both good and bad. Good in a sense that I love the reaction my Equation gives me, Bad in a sense that I don't want the ball to react that way. Same mid-lane read, same length, same reaction on the back end, sometimes less backend then my Equation.
This ball didn't give me the amazing backend that people were raving about. The only way I could get it to cover any boards was to play down and in over the 10 board.
I was reading the spec sheet and this ball is 400 grit under the polish. So the ball may in fact have been burning up on me. I know this ball is supposed to take cover adjustments very well, so what do you guys recommend? Whats been working well? When I used my Agent which was 600 grit under 1500 grit polish, I had to bring that up to 1000 grit abralon plus the polish to make it move. Should I try the same thing?

Dude...were you watching me bowl with my Radical tonight? Everything you just said, SAME EXACT STUFF HAPPENED TO ME!
Except for the thing about the Equation....I don't have one lol.
I don't like the Radical one bit.

well, have you read the additional product sheet that came with the ball?? Here is part of it word for word:
"If you bowl on a lane condition where you Radical Inferno goes too long and struggles to make a strong backend move, Brunswick strongly recommends that you remove the polish from the ball with a burgundy Scrotch Bright pad, or similar agressive abrasive, then use the Grey and White Scotch Bright pads or the 500 & 1000 grit Abralon pads to create a dull, but very smooth surface finish."
I'd try that first because people have talked about having success with the ball after surface adjustment. You might be throwing away a ball that you might really like in the long run.

Noy, just picked up the sheet you were talking about..it was hidden deep in the box lol.
So my question is now....based on what they're saying....sand off the polish with the burgundy pad first...then use the grey...then after using the grey, use the white to finish it off??
I don't have a lot of experience with adjusting the covers.....as you can tell lol.

yes...exactly as you said, but grey and white pads are hard to find i hear. I think it would be easier to bring it to your proshop and have them sand the polish off, then hit it with a 500 abralon then a 1000 abralon. Will be much smoother and no lines on the ball.

Yea I have both the Burgundy and the Grey, and I am 99% sure we sell the white at walgreen's..where i work as a 2nd job. I'm going to email my driller and see how much he's going to charge me for the resurface....if it's too much I'll do it myself

Wouldn't a dull surface, however high of a grit, defeat the purpose of the ball? Wasn't it supposed to be this skid/snap demon? It's not burning up, trust me. I've thrown it on a pattern with HEAVY head oil and screaming backends. It doesn't seem to want to rev, it's all cover. Don't get me wrong, slow your speed up a little, and the ball becomes a monster. It seems to like drier shorter patterns, but at the same time, an inside angle. That's what the trick is. Try moving right and it wants to move pretty early. The biggest problem seems to be that it's a GOOD ball, but there's inevitably something else you have in your bag that's better. My Red Zone is going to be the first ball out of the bag from now on, but the Radical is going everywhere . . and I only carry two balls. It's already proven itself, it's just a little sensitive and quirky.

You consider yourself a stroker, so I'm guessing you revs are in the 250 range. You'll NEVER get ANY ball to kick on the backend like a 400rpm bowler would. Just ain't gonna happen....

Noy,
You've got to be careful about what you hear on this site and what a ball will do for you. A lot of these guys have been bowling 10X longer than you, and have a lot more revs and consistency in the release. A bowler like that will get the ball to scream back on the backend like you only dream of. If you really are a stroker, you're not about backend, you're about hitting your mark every time and taking a more direct line to the pocket. Leave the big backend for the crankers, and learn to use what you've got.
Oh, and you're buying way too many balls right now for someone bowling a few months...

Didnt I say in a previous post dont get both the Radical and the equation beacsue they will probally overlap???????? Really IMO, the equation, radical, and Agent are all the same sort of ball. The reason you dont see the Radical flipping is probally your lower rev rate. You need a good amount of hand in most cases to get a ball to flip over. It could also be the pin beside ring and how it reacts with your PAP.
-
Trust me, I tried it all. Moving inside, slowing way down, changing hand positions, cranking the ball, two finger cranking. The ball at times moved less than my equation. I played 8 straight games with the radical and it looked identical to my equation. An no, the Equation/Radical, and Agent are hardly the same ball. I could swing the Agent from 3rd arrow to 1st arrow with the lower rev rate I had before (same speed now), something I've since only been able to do with my Action Max.
I was looking for a ball that went between my Max and Equation and so far this ball hasnt been the one. I'll try the surface change before I think about selling it. I guess I should have followed my gut instinct instead and drilled up the Pain, which I KNOW would go in between.
Slops, I dont recall you telling me that but I dont doubt that you did.
Splendor, I dont buy the balls.

I should also add that personally I don't think rolly Brunswick equipment is very good for a stroker style. I have not had any success with their balls. I don't blame the company, I just think their rolly coverstocks don't mesh well with my style and lowish rev rate.

Noy I just watched your vid in your profile...Theres no way your a tweener..Maybe a stroker at best
The Radical will never "turn" for your release. Your pretty much playing a direct line to pocket in the vid. You need to learn to rev the ball & send it out before its going to turn for you.
Alot of times when I'm bowling I'll get alot of guys asking me how I make the ball come in at a complete angle...I usually tells them "its the ball doing that, not me"...lol
I guess I really shouldnt say that anymore...

Not that there is anything wrong with his rev-rate or style, that was my impression also, Stroker at best.

LOL, i need to take that video down...its a bad interpretation of how I bowl now. Expect a new vid within the next week.

Yea, Im beginning to think that too. I've seen many strokers in my house that have Bruns balls sitting in their bags as they werent very impressed with whatever they bought.

I need something that saves energy better than Brunswick covers normally do for me. That's why I'm throwing mostly Hammer now, since they have more length for the most part. When I've tried to throw Brunswick in the past, it didn't have enough on the back end due to my speed and rev rate. Maybe this would be different with the BVP line rather than the higher end lines.

I only went with the Wrath because I got a great, great deal on it from NACDale at the last BR meet. I tried to sell or trade it to get a Pain, but couldn't get it done. I'm picking it up from the shop today.
Why are you writing off C300? Is the Action Max the only one you've thrown? I've found C300 to be decent for a lower rev, stroker style. Keep in mind, if it was because of the Max, the ball needs a LOT of oil to perform.

I've thrown the Action as well and loved it. I know about the oil issues with the Max and cant wait until I find enough oil to use it (if I dont sell it by then). I'm probably gonna sell this Radical and gain back the loss i paid in drilling. Then I'll have cash to drill up this Pain thats sitting next to me. I should have drilled that instead.

I have not had good success with the Radical as well. I tried it first OOB and I didn't like the look. I took off the polish down to 800 grit and it still got down the lane OK and hooked a little more but it definitely was not a swing ball. I'd say it would be an OK ball but the Vapor and the Red Zone are far better matchups and the Radical lost it's place in my arsenel. the good news is I sold it in one hour since it's still a hot wanted ball.
-
Well, I decided I didn't want to deal with it and sold it to my friend to cover the cost of drilling. He was unsure if he was going to join the winter season and without him I wouldnt have a team. So I convinced him that I'd sell him the Rad for cheap for garuntee that he'd bowl with us next season.
Time to drill up a Pain.
