Scorchin' Inferno - Have you tweaked the coverstock? W/Pics
« on: August 29, 2006, 02:43:12 AM »
Hey BR Family & Brunswick Nation,

I just got a hold of a very nice Scorchin' Inferno from a fellow BR user (Aaron - volley_man)yesterday. I haven't thrown the ball yet and I'm crossing my fingers that I don't clip the finger or thumb holes with the Pin being directly under the ring finger and the CG stacked below it (Pin is 1 5/8" long). The span on both fingers are almost an identical match to my specs, but I am unsure about the pitches. Hopefully it will work out as I tend to track high. (Closer to the thumb)

I expect this piece to read the mids well on most Medium-Heavy to Heavy patterns. We'll have to see though.

Here are pics of the Scorchin' I acquired.

My question is, have any of you altered the coverstock of the Scorchin'? If so, what have you had success with? Which grits did not work out? Did you apply polish and if so, which kind? (Brunswick Factory, Ebonite, etc.)

Thanks in advance!

That drilling may clip the finger but if it does you can try to reduce flair with bringing the surface up to 1000 matte finish. If it still clips the finger hole, you might be able to use an x-hole near your PAP to move the bowtie away from the finger hole. I heard x-hole on your pap and the ball will have more skid snap and the lower you go with the x-hole below your pap the more archy the ball will be. I dont have pictures of my Scrochin yet, its gonna need to be redrilled anyway as ive done the surface change and still clip the middle finger hole. Hoping to get pictures of all my equipment tonight while practicing.

Mike,

Thanks for the reply. How is your Scorchin' laid out? Is the pin under as well? I noticed you track pretty high as well. Since the pin is almost 2 inches, I'm hoping it won't clip at all. I have a C300 U-Turn PP that is pin under the ring in the same position, but the pin was 3 inches long so it didn't clip at all. I'm crossing my fingers!

Anyone else change the surface on their Scorchin'?

Thanks again

I can explain it but ill have pictures to better describe it tonight.

The pin is under the ring finger, CG 45* right with an X-Hole 3.5"  down from my PAP. Yes I do track high, very high at that. Seems with bowling on the PBA shots, its helped me lower my track some, for the better.

Mike,

Thanks for the update. Looking forward to the pics.

One more question, do you remember how long the pin is?

Thanks!

What is your pap? I have several balls with that drill pattern that don't even come close to clipping my thumb hole.

Hey HouseHck50, PAP is in my profile, but here it is below...
PAP - 5 1/2 > 5/8 ^

I have other balls with pin under, but the pins are 3 inches or longer. I've had a bad experience with short pin balls or pin-in balls. Last ball I bought was a used Passion with a 0-1 inch pin with the pin under the ring and cg stacked below. It rolled over the fingers and thumb (no x-hole). I eventually sold it. I haven't tried a pin under layout with a pin of 2 inches yet, so that's why I was kinda worried.

Thanks!

Mines 5 1/2 as well, but as I thought about it later, I do have an inverted track (1/4 dn) which is the reason I dont clip thoumb holes.

Ahhh, that explains it. Thanks for your input!

Want to see a Scorchin with a pin longer than 2", check out the pic of mine in my profile.  It was 3-4 on the box.  I'd have to measure it to find the exact length, but I think it is about 3.5".

Mine is 3-4" too.... Basic 1E label drill. Pin to the Right of Ring and CG in middle of Grip.

I don't know what happend to mine, I used mine OOB for a while, it lost its polish,I guess it polished itself on the track, I bathed it, then had it polished at a pro shop, I don't know what they used, looks like either rough buff or rubbing compound. Either way I used it for awhile then bathed it again and it's dull again but still kinda polished???

My wife's is polished as well.... 1-2" pin. Her drilling is aggressive, pin 1 1/2 inches right of ring and cg stacked under it with an x-hole on PAP... It really moves as soon as it hits dry.
