Raging Inferno VS Ultimate Inferno
« on: April 18, 2004, 09:02:12 PM »
I am getting the Ultimate Inferno but want to know the difference between the two besides it's cover which one is particle and the other Resin. Should the Ultimate be drilled strong or would a label drill like a 4 x 4 be more versatile?

Gary i am looking for this ball to be for Heavy Oil. I'm
from the West Coast and the lane aren't really heavy except
for one house that has HPL Synthetics. But i want it for tournament use.
I'm going to Nationals in Reno and want something for the Team event.
Plus i really like Resin balls compared to Particle. Particle seems to
not really work on carrydown. So i was thinking of a label drill since
it's more simple and general. I feel if i drill this ball strong that it will
burn out for me since I am a tweener that can play straight up or open up the lane. I throw about 16 mph with a 45 degree axis tilt.

What do you think Gary? Do you own both balls?

I gotta say it depends on the bowler & his style too on these balls.  I have a Raging and had an Ultimate.  I'm a semi-cranker.  Slower speed.  The Ultimate did not perform well for me as a heavy oil ball.  If swung it on HPL's with oil it did't have much of a backend move and if I squared up more it hooked way too early.  The Raging has much more of a pronounced backend move and although it skids a little farther it serves me much better in heavier oil.

well guys i have thrown both of these balls and i have to say that they are both to much ball. i own the raging and i hardly have the chance to throw it. i throw the ball at about 18 miles per hour and have a high rev rate. the ball is drilled almost straight up. a little to the left of pin. i also have the barbed wire which i had drilled straight up in line with pin and cg and that ball also hooks way to much.(about 28 to 34 boards on average). i dont necessarily like being a cranker. i would rather throw a much milder hook. any ideas???

If you cant keep a barbed wire on the lane, you need to come in from the parking lot and try bowling INSIDE the bowling center.

my questions are placed in attempt to recieve constructive critism, but if that is beyond this gentlemens capabilities i am more than open to accepting a challenge, and by all means when i come INSIDE your house you will wish you had stayed in the parking lot.

UCI,

Calm down buddy.  That was a joke, aimed at how dry of a condition you must be bowling on, not your ability to control a Barbed Wire.  You must have just read it wrong or something, I guess.  As for the other part, I'm always up for some good ole competition.  You can find me at the Brunswick Zone of Marietta (aka Cedar Creek Lanes) in Atlanta Ga., or stop on in at a Southern PBA regional stop.  My name is Chris Wells, and I highly doubt I'll wish you had stayed in the parking lot, as bowling in the parking lot isnt much fun; but, I wont bowl with you if its to be in the manner of your last post. Good day :0

I owned the raging and now own the ultimate and they are similar in reactions but the ultimate is more consitent is oil and the cover does not burn up like the particle raging.  The ultimate handles oil mush better, and opens up the lane great.  If you want to open the ABC shot up a little more with the ultimate i would drill it with the pin lower and the cg kicked out about 2 inches for better midlane roll.  Very versatile also.  I can use it on a variety of shots where there is a ton of head oil.  I might drill another one and polish is a lot for more lenght and backend, but the new ravage is really catching my eye.  Just to let you know about the ABC shot, I practice on it a lot in my home house that has older wood, and the ultmate hooks a little too much in the area where other stuff works great.  But on the synthetics in Reno, it should work pretty good.

I have both, with identical drillings. I was hoping the Ultimate would replace my Raging......and it doesn't. It is not nearly as strong and does not have nearly the strong roll that the Raging has.

Neither of these are oil balls for me. The Raging is just a step down from an oiler for me, and the Ultimate is a few boards weaker than the Raging, FOR ME. I think they both hit rather well, with the Ultimate seeming to keep the pins lower. They both track up rather quickly.

If you are looking for a true heavy oil ball, look else where. EXAMPLE: You do not put polish on a ball if you are throwing it on a ture heavy oil pattern. So if this is a bowlers oil ball, and they have polish on it, then they are not bowling on that heavy of a pattern. Take things like that into consideration.

YAY! :0

And excalibur, you said neither of the two balls react strong enough to be considered an oiler, how did you have them layed out, by chance.  I notice you have a good bit of axis tilt, and just wonder how you have them setup. Thanks.
