Rico Rant!
« on: April 25, 2005, 01:42:48 PM »
Enough with the rico questions!!! Jesus christ, you'd think this drilling was the saviour from all the comments it gets! This reminds me of all the 315 degree drilling questions of about a year ago. Can we just move on from Rico? Or can we at least call it "5 inches from pap with pin in grip center" or just "standard drilling that was on many balls in the 80's when the pins were too short for exotic drills?"

I'M SICK OF RICO!!!

The only reason it gets attention is because Nick started to use it, and for some reason people try to emulate nick in every aspect....

I agree, it's nothing new, at all.  It doesn't deserve so much attention...

You're right, when he started using sarge easter, EVERYONE wanted to use sarge easter. People still ask about it because of him and robert smith, they are probably the 2 single reasons people have even heard of it.

My buddy had a ball drilled like this a long time ago...it was a Power Torq!!!! He called the drilling "pin weight" since it put the pin in grip center and teh cg between the pin and PAP.

The ball was very smooth and arcy for him.

How about it bluedothooks? Any input???

Sean, we aren't talking about you...There were tweeners and strokers on here who wanted to use sarge just because they saw that nick used it.  I don't think stanski or I have problems with you, or others who SHOULD use it.  I don't think you use sarge or rico simply because you saw someone use it, right?  I'm sure you actually thought about what would be best for you, which turns out to be sarge.  And rico is good for high rev players trying to control their ball.  My point is, there are very few players on here like nick or you, but EVERYONE wants to have a sarge easter ball drilled rico1 now even if it's completely wrong for them.

Exactly, that was my point, that the drill is only good for certain players and is just one of many in a series of drills out there that give specific ball reactions. Strokers with inverted full roller tracks should not be using this drilling!

A lot of people used this layout in the Columbia Power Torque...I did and it rolled really awesome. I am glad that people like this layout and it is good for people that want to know have the knowledge to understand what this layout is about.

Heaven forbid us to formulate a way to try a new layout that helps us become better bowlers.  This is near the top of the list of things that require a "go to hell" type of response?  There's plenty of folks around these parts taht have close to ball reps and touring players and that's where the lion's share of the new drilling and tech data are perfected.  So, if all you have to do with your miserable existence is complain about some folks stopping by to share and exchange some of their own bowling knowledge based on the first hand accounts with equipment, layouts, drilling, etc., then pack up your computers and go to the lanes for you must be one of the best bowlers on tour and cannot possibly get any better.

Nick, I already beat you to the "Rico2" layout lol, but it acted kinda funny.  I used a Stinger Lowflare with the Pin in the Palm, but the C.G up and right of the ring finger so I could put a large weighthole in the finger positive quadrant inside the VAL.  It flared about an inch but gave a nice hook-stop reaction.  It almost never carried when it got into the pocket though, lots of 8s, 10s and weak buckets.

Wow, you guys COMPLETELY missed the point....The point is, this drill is NOTHING special that there should be more topics asking about this than ANYTHING else....The concept of putting the pin in palm is NOTHIGN new at all, so don't give me that crap.  The only difference rico makes is putting a weighthole, whoopdedoo...That isn't worth literally 6 or 7 threads per day about it.

You guys are taking this so personally and I have no idea why.  YOu can defend it all you want, but stanski is right, there is no need for there to be every other thread about "will rico1 work on ball -----".....It's a bit much.  You guys don't realize, we don't have ANYTHING against rico1, we just are tired of the fact it is talked about constantly, and everyone who shouldn't be using it wants to try it on everything they have.  If you looked from a completely outside perspective, you would think that this is the biggest breakthrough in bowling in the last 10 years (no exaggeration).
