Title: Same line, same drillings???

Say you had an: Ultimate Inferno, Smokin' Inferno, Blazing Inferno. All drilled with the pin next to ring finger, cg stacked below. I've had pretty good success with this set up so far. I just wondered if alot of you guys stay with a line, or any mix of balls but keep the same drilling. Or, change balls, and drillings? Just wondered what's the majority says.

I did four Diesels with the same drilling and three worked, but I didn't match up well with the particle cover. I think it's safe to use what has worked in the last unless you hit a really different condition that dictates change.

I think its best to have different layout on the balls so you can play other lines on the lane.

Similar drilling can be beneficial but you have to choose your balls with the utmost care. You did NOT do that, going from the Ultimate to the Smoking, UNLESS you modifed their cover to some degree.

The UI and the SI are fairly different.  One's a polished pearl, the other's a dull solid.  It seems to me that drilling them all the same way would make the differences come from the ball's natural characteristics.  If the SI is too strong or angular, would the OI have been a better choice?

Would it have been better to drill each according to their nature so as to emphasize the inherent differences?  Drill the Blazing for a long, sharp backend, maybe pin above ring with the CG stacked and the UI with the pin below and right with the CG swung out.  Maybe put the SI or OI in between.

I've heard the adage "drill you weak balls weak and your strong balls strong" to enhance the natural differences in ball reactions.  Would that have been better here?

Additionally, how do companies come up with their numbers?  The Rotogrip site specifically says that all balls were drilled such-and-such with a certain oil pattern.  I would guess that other companies that post numbers like that have similar procedures.  Is that true?  Would it be better to test a ball on the intended oil pattern?
