Lost Reaction
« on: August 10, 2006, 07:26:52 AM »
I have an OI, but don't throw it much anymore b/c its oil logged.  Our proshop doesn't have a rejuventor oven, and I've tried sunbathing, hair dryers and ovens but nothing seems to work.  I've resurfaced it once, that didn't help.  Any suggestions?  The oven and hair dryer effect works on every other ball I have, SZ AI SCI and others but for some reason, not this ball.

Put it in the bucket with some hot tap water and a splash of all purose cleaner, let it bleed the lane conditioner for 30 mins and repeat the process with fresh water if necessary. Should restore some squeeky tackiness to the surface. Fresh up the polish thereafter.

If this does not help, then it is time to dig a hole...

Well i brought it up to 2000 grit today and threw it again.  It rolls a little better.  What it does it skids nice but when it turns the corner, rolls out.  I can get to the pocket good but will leave 10, 5-7 other stupid crap.  The oil seems to just sit on the cover, but when i try to bleed it, none comes out.

You are sure that the ball is not simply burning out due to a lack of oil on the lanes? Even a pearl reactive has its limits, and the OI is not the weakest ball around? Sounds to me by the symptoms as if the ball arrives at the pins without power. No surface reaction/slip can be one reason, but also the lane condition.

restore to 400 grit + high gloss polish.

i got a few 5-7 out of mine when i hit the pocket light after too much polishing in the compound machine.

if its rolling out its too much surface, so if you have a spinner, restore the factory surface after the hot water bucket method.

people are going to gripe when i say this, but try a rag with a little acetone after the warm water bath to clear up the pores.

if you're going to pitch it, give it to me, ill pay for shipping, ill give it life again, maybe shoot an honor score with it.

as long as the pin and bridge are not cracked.
