Scorchin X-blem $49 @ Bowling Ball. Com
« on: November 16, 2006, 04:42:55 AM »
I just received an e-mail for some specials @ Bowling Ball. Com. They have 15 pound x-out Scorchins for $69 minus $10 newsletter discount plus $10 Google checkout discount. Final price = $49.99 shipped.

I figured at this price it was worth taking a chance.

I also don't think its a coverstock issue.. I doubt bb.com would buy balls that have that type of problem.. Until more people state that they are having problems like that, I feel ok about the one I have sitting on my shelf waiting to get punched up..

I've got 3 of them sitting on the shelf right now. I am getting ready to lay one out. -Thinking about trying a rico on the one with a 1" pin.

I got mine, but it has no CG.  I'm going to try and exchange it for one that does.

I sold mine because I had a used one on the way when the blems were offerred. The guy that bought mine works at the center and is perfectly happy with it (btw, I sold it for exactly what I paid.....handed him the BB.Com invoice and said "this is your cost").

I hit it with some polish to counteract the phasing then brought it down with 1000 Abralon and it looked great!

It seems like a very good deal! What pin and top weight should I specify if I want it to skid and snap??

The scorchin is not a good choice at all for a skid/snap reaction. Thats not what the ball was designed to do. However, for most skid/snap layouts, a 3-4" pin would allow you to put the pin above the fingers to create the length and backend.

I have a triple x-factor which I am using for skid/snap reaction. What kind pattern do you suggest for this ball? smooth arch? Mine triple x-factor has a 4-5in pin, which goes down the lane too far on medium-oily lane. Can I make the scorchin inferno to hook a little bit earlier comparin to my triple x-factor?

I sold a Scorchin blem to a proshop for what I paid for it. They drilled it up for a customer on Sunday and Tuesday night in game 1 he shot 300 with it. Not much after that, but he really liked it smooth arc and hitting power!

In OOB surface, the SI will hook earlier anyway. OOB it is meant to be a early and smooth arcing type ball.

I am the pro shop that drilled the Scorchin for Conspiritors friens and it is indeed weaker than I would have thought.  His Wizard is drilled same basic layout but the pin is at 4 on the Scorchin and the Wizard is at 5 inches from PAP under fingers with no hole. The Scorchin blem actually goes longer than the Wizard....Both were factory surface.  Still a great buy...NO DOUBT!!!!    Beans

In the current inferno lineup, it would be the Radical and Smokin.

The scorchin color blem I drilled up also seems to be milder that I expected...  I have the pin above of my ring (about 4.5 pin to PAP) and cg out a touch with a small weight hole on my PAP.  The surface is 500 grit abralon with Jimdex polish...  On a medium heavy league shot, I was playing up the boards around 7-8 at the arrows...  really, really smooth reaction.  The hit and carry were very good.. no complaints, but I just expected the ball to be a little stronger (as it was rated as one of the largest hook potentials released by Brunswick)...  I'm actually pleasantly surprised as I usually never can play out there!  I have a second one in the closet...  if I drill that one up, I'm going to use a stronger layout and probably not polish it up (help it handle a little more oil).
