Title: Scorchin X-blem $49 @ Bowling Ball. Com
Post by: Wallshot on November 16, 2006, 04:42:55 AM
I just received an e-mail for some specials @ Bowling Ball. Com. They have 15 pound x-out Scorchins for $69 minus $10 newsletter discount plus $10 Google checkout discount. Final price = $49.99 shipped.

I figured at this price it was worth taking a chance.

Does anyone know how Google Checkout works. Do you have to sign up somewhere before you try to purchase one of the scorchins? Or can you just proceed to checkout at bowlingball.com and and take care of it there?

Sweet.  I just bought one as well...  Now comes the fun part... the waiting game to see what I actually get.  Hopefully its not something with an 11" pin and 5 oz top top weight.. LOL.  But for that price, its pretty hard to beat regardless...

X-Blem, X-Out, & Seconds:
Manufacturers release their high performance bowling balls under the X-Blem, X-Out or Second label when small non-performance issues occur. The core and coverstock combinations on these bowling balls are identical to the first line bowling balls.

A bowling ball is labeled an X-Blem, X-Out, or Second for any one of the following reasons:
Color pigmentation.

Small pitting caused by air bubbles.

Unique pin placement, top weight, or mass bias marking location.

Labels are engraved in unusual places or may have the wrong logos engraved on ball.

Swirl patterns of the ball are not consistent, which may effect the color (look) of the ball greatly.

Engravings such as the serial numbers, cg location markers or logos may be stamped on the ball more than once.

These differences do not effect the performance of the bowling ball or the ability to drill the bowling ball. Therefore allowing bowlers to purchase top of the line bowling equipment at a fraction of the cost.

NOTE: Due to the limited availability of X-Comps, X-Blems, X-Outs, and Seconds pin placement and top weight are not guaranteed.

Don't be surprised if the specs are horrible on these balls. Why else would they sell them for $49 shipped?

I hope I am wrong, but I see no reason why they would sell these balls for that low of a price, if the problem was just a color issue..

I know someone that ordered an infinite one second or blem from bowlingball.com and the ball was basically undrillable with the location of the pin cg and bomb.. I personally will never buy a blem or second again as I have had nothing but bad luck with these types of balls.. Good luck to all that bought the scorchin 2nd's and hope they all have usable specs..

As far as the user that bid on the ball and sent them an email. They will not let you out of the auction if you win it. Everything for them is automated because they sell so much on ebay. They will expect you to follow thru with the winning bid and if you don't pay they will also put you on their list of non-paying bidders and they will not allow you to bid on anymore of their auctions. I know this for a fact as I am not able to bid on any  of bowlingball.com ebay auctions because of an issue I had with them awhile back.

One day when I grow up I hope to be able to throw the ball AND carry as good as g_thing!!

I bought some wrist braces from them on an ebay auction that basically fell apart and I wanted a refund and they just banned me from bidding and never replied to any of my emails requesting a refund. Very poor customer service in my eyes. That whole thing was a couple of years ago so maybe things have improved, but since I can't bid on their auctions. I have no idea..

Well, I agree that x-outs are always a gamble. I have a few in my collection and they were all o.k. except one Storm Tfifecta that had the cg and mb on the axis within an inch of each other resulting in 3 3/4 onces of bottom weight. We angled an x-hole and got her down within legal limits and the ball is one heavy fricken roller....LOL

I'm hoping these Scorchins are useable even if the specs are "exotic".

Ordered a couple of smokin' white pins 2 weeks ago. didn't specify any specs due to a goof on the order page. rec'vd a 2.5t.w 3 1/4 pin and a 2.9t.w.
3 5/16 pin. the colors are off slightly on the second one and pretty much blotched on the first one. but not bad, might help picking up the roll, haven't drilled them yet

Warning.  My shop got one of these "2nd scorchin" balls from a customer with the pin way up in the B logo.  When we weighed out the real c.g. the ball had a 6 1/2" pin.  So much for Brunswick not producing 2nds huh?  It had 4.75oz topweight too.  The best we could do was lay the C.G. dead in the palm and put the pin high up 1" from his VAL and it ended up being a 4 3/4" pin to PAP placement, but almost 5" above the midline.  The customer seems to like the reaction though so I guess that's all that matters huh?

Haha..Inverted.. normally it seems that when you don't want to purcahse something on ebay (or change your mind), you are a dead lock to win the auction, regardless of time remaining...  I take it that the winning bidder wasn't on their mailing list...

These Scorchin bowling balls only have a slight color issue. We have 2-3 and 3-4 inch pins. No long pins and no top weights that are not within range. Plus you may request your pin and top when checking out.

Order from our website and simply pay by Google Checkout and Google will take $10 off of EVERY placed over $30. Just click on the link at the check out page. No limit to the number of orders. Our codes work only on non newsletter items. Still a great buy.

All Brunswick Seconds have:
Same core
Same coverstock
Same reaction
Same WARRANTY

And yes they are USBC approved.

When I ordered at the end of Oct, they did not have that option available.  You have to email or contact them by using the site contact service with the specs and they will include it in the order.
That may not be how it works now.

There is no place at Google to enter you're specs. We have requested that Google add it. Google is still in beta testing mode and is only currently working with a few select large ecommerce sites.

We have moved our comments field to the cart page.

BEFORE YOU CLICK ON GOOGLE CHECKOUT ENTER YOUR PIN AND TOP WEIGHT REQUIREMENTS IN THE BOX. WE DO GUARANTEE SPECS.

If you miss this box, e-mail us immediately after your order via Google or at our e-mail address support@bowlingball.com should give us enough time to enter your requirements.

USE THE CODE FB10 and receive an additional $10 off ALL orders over $75, that's in addition to Google's $10 for a total of $20. NO LIMIT TO THE NUMBER OF ORDERS PLACED.

Thank you everyone for making us the largest online bowling store.

We have expanded again and now carry over $3,000,000 in inventory in our 35,000 square foot warehouse. We ship the product directly to you from our warehouse. We do not drop ship like most smaller online companies.

Thanks a million to everyone, we do appreciate the business.

When we buy lower, we pass the savings onto you. You deserve more value for your hard earned dollars.

I know that it sounds bizarre, but that is correct. Right now Google is offering any customer $10 off every $30, no limit, when the the order is placed through Google Checkout. The offer can end at any time. Google is an outstanding company that is moving forward very aggressively. They also want to give something back to the world.

If you are not ordering everything online this Holiday Season through Google Checkout, you are throwing money away. They currently are only working with the larger Internet companies.

Thanks again everyone for making us the largest online bowling retailer.
Thanks Google.

Remember we guarantee pins and tops at our website, always.

First quality product, unless going through www.bowlingdeals.com and then it is always clearly stated if the ball is a second or blem. We currently sell not blems or seconds on www.bowlingball.com.

We have moved the notes field just before you click on Google Checkout. If you missed it or are having problems, please email us immediately and we will get your specs request into your order.

We only have 2-3 and 3-4 pins.

AN OBSERVATION: We give it 100%, customer service is of the upmost importance to us. I have noticed that someone, maybe the owner of the this website, is posting negative information. Once I noticed bowlingcom as the user, only to see it get changed a few minutes later. Many of my post have been removed, but we will keep plugging away.

WE BELIEVE IN STANDING BEHIND OUR BUSINESS AND NOT KNOCKING OTHER BUSINESSES.

EXAMPLE: You purchase 5 $30 gift certificates at bowlingball.com. Each order must be placed separately. You then go back to our website and use the 5 gift certificates to purchase $150 worth of product. MULTIPLE GIFT CERTIFICATES MAY BE APPLIED TO ORDERS. You will receive another $10 off by checking out with Google; add our FB10 code for another $10 off. You have just saved $70 on your $150 order. Hard to believe, but that is the way it works right now.

We have sold an unbelievable number of $30 gift certificates since the promotion began.

D Pat,

the deal for the $30 gift certs is still there. I just did it. $20 each thru google.. Just click on the gift certs box on bowlingball.com homepage and if put in the amount of the gift cert and if you have ordered with them before, you will have a google account and its easy from there.. FYI: You will have to do a seperate transaction for each cert you guy to get the $10 savings..

One day when I grow up I hope to be able to throw the ball AND carry as good as g_thing!!

I bought 4 $30 gift certificates. Thats $120 for $80!!!

I just tried to use them though and when I got down to the last one, the total I still owed them was $24.99 and I tried to use my last $30 gift certificate and thought it would just give me $5.01 back.

For some reason it would not take that code b/c it was for more than the total owed. I had to cancel my order for now and am waiting to hear back from their customer service. I know they will get it right, This order will be my 7th ball bought from them this month along with some polish and cleaners. They are quickly becoming the best online since these deals last month.

Well, I just bought 4 gift cert. for $80 and bought a Ball for $130. It would then be a credit of $10 but would not respond to the last $30 cert. because i assume there are no credits. I went ahead and ordered an extra $20 then the last certificate worked. Total order $153. actual cost $93. Saved $10 on each gift certificate plus $10 from Google plus $10 from Bowlingball.com code fb10. Total Savings = $60  Happy Thanksgiving to ALL

i should be getting my $35 Mo-Rich Shock & Awe in the mail on Monday.

but that was a 1st quality bowlingball.com purchase.

so the specs should be right on, i havent heard anything and its shipped.

for the record... my request:

16.0 or 16.1
2" Pin
2.0-2.5 Ounce Top.

still undecided if its for me or my dad, after the way he put away a Rhino PTE because hes a 1 dimensional bowler aquainted to one layout... and I digress.

There is another coupon code for orders over 150 dollars...which gives you $15 off NL15 (I believe this expires on the 23rd)

I also just picked up final fantasy 12 on buy.com for $37.50

I'm still trying to find another store that will allow you to buy gift cards for 10 dollars off in google checkout.

I would be careful with a stacked drilling with pin in palm. I heard that these balls have pretty good traction. You wouldn't want it to roll out too early. Do a little research before punching it.

i did that with the razor wire and it was a beast on a fresh shot

Very funny!  I actually saw one of these sitting in a pro shop.....being sold as a 1st quality ball!  I thought it looked a little washed out, but wasn't sure.

Funny that a lot of pro shops will bash on-line places and tell customers that they will most likely get a 2nd quality product by ordering on-line!

I just received mine this morning (well... it was actually here wed night but I wasn't)...  As described previously, the ball appears to have a light white haze in the cover (see photos), but everything else is perfect.  It reminds me (for those of us here in the northeast) of the nights when I forget to bring equipment inside from the vehicle (actually, I'm not so sure that some of it wasn't due to the ball spending two nights outside my front door).  I'm probably going to play around this afternoon to see whether a light sanding will remove this or if the haze is throughout the entire coverstock.  Either way, its not a big deal.  The only other indication of the ball being a second was an "S" stamped inside the Brunswick B logo.  I received a 3" pin with 3.1 oz top (and that was without requesting specific specs).  So far, appears to be a "steal" for that price.  Thanks BB.com!

The REALLY funny thing is the Scorching on the shelf at the pro shop looked exactly like mine.    The PSG stated a scotch brite pad will bring the color back out.

Thought everyone should be fully aware of Google's policies,
as listed at Google Checkout, concerning their promotion of
$10 off $30 when placing an order through Google Checkout.

In an effort to provide a safe purchasing environment for all of our
users, Google reviews orders on a regular basis.

During a recent review, we noticed you've placed several orders using our
recent promotion. This promotion may not be used to purchase items for
resale, and we also do not allow buyers to split orders to unfairly take
advantage of the discount provided. For example, an order containing 2
items that total $60 should not be split into two orders of $30 as a way
to receive additional discounts.

We review accounts regularly to ensure a safe purchasing environment for
our buyers and sellers. We hope that everyone understands the reasons for our
policies, and we trust that you'll make use of the rules and promotion
requirements outlined above. Keep in mind that continued use of this
promotion that does not comply with the previously mentioned guidelines
may result in order cancellation or account closure.

Sincerely,

My local pro shop which is actually owned by bowlingball.com has this ball drilled for $99. They normally charge $50 to drill a ball so that makes this ball $49. They have one that they polished up and that alone removed about 95% of the haze. I don't have a hvy oil ball so I think I will get one from them. It is just too good of price to pass up.

I got my second today... this one has the same haze as the previous, but also had a lot of white swirled in with the red and black... actually looked pretty nice.  I took it into the shop and hit it with 500 grit abralon, followed by 1000 grit, and 2000 grit, and ebonite extender polish.  This removed any sign of the white haze... as I suspected, it was only surface.  The white swirl was still in the ball though.

I drilled the ball out with the pin above and between my fingers (approx 5 1/4" pin to PAP) and cg out a little with a small weight hole on my PAP.  I took it out for a few shots on day old open play carry down.  The ball was very smooth rolling...  seemed to get through the heads fairly well... I had to play a more direct shot due to all the carry down, but the ball hit fine.  I think on a fresh shot, this ball is going to roll very nice..  once I get a few more games, I'll post a full review.

I sold mine because I had a used one on the way when the blems were offerred. The guy that bought mine works at the center and is perfectly happy with it (btw, I sold it for exactly what I paid.....handed him the BB.Com invoice and said "this is your cost").

I hit it with some polish to counteract the phasing then brought it down with 1000 Abralon and it looked great!

The scorchin is not a good choice at all for a skid/snap reaction. Thats not what the ball was designed to do. However, for most skid/snap layouts, a 3-4" pin would allow you to put the pin above the fingers to create the length and backend.

I have a triple x-factor which I am using for skid/snap reaction. What kind pattern do you suggest for this ball? smooth arch? Mine triple x-factor has a 4-5in pin, which goes down the lane too far on medium-oily lane. Can I make the scorchin inferno to hook a little bit earlier comparin to my triple x-factor?

I sold a Scorchin blem to a proshop for what I paid for it. They drilled it up for a customer on Sunday and Tuesday night in game 1 he shot 300 with it. Not much after that, but he really liked it smooth arc and hitting power!

In OOB surface, the SI will hook earlier anyway. OOB it is meant to be a early and smooth arcing type ball.

I am the pro shop that drilled the Scorchin for Conspiritors friens and it is indeed weaker than I would have thought.  His Wizard is drilled same basic layout but the pin is at 4 on the Scorchin and the Wizard is at 5 inches from PAP under fingers with no hole. The Scorchin blem actually goes longer than the Wizard....Both were factory surface.  Still a great buy...NO DOUBT!!!!    Beans

The scorchin color blem I drilled up also seems to be milder that I expected...  I have the pin above of my ring (about 4.5 pin to PAP) and cg out a touch with a small weight hole on my PAP.  The surface is 500 grit abralon with Jimdex polish...  On a medium heavy league shot, I was playing up the boards around 7-8 at the arrows...  really, really smooth reaction.  The hit and carry were very good.. no complaints, but I just expected the ball to be a little stronger (as it was rated as one of the largest hook potentials released by Brunswick)...  I'm actually pleasantly surprised as I usually never can play out there!  I have a second one in the closet...  if I drill that one up, I'm going to use a stronger layout and probably not polish it up (help it handle a little more oil).

I really like mine too. My last three sets with it, 746-738-690. Drilled pin below the ring/bridge, sanded to 1000 then polished, then took a 1000 scbrite lightly back over it by hand to remove some of the polish. Ball rolls very nice and has a strong arc on the backend. The color doesn't look bad at all either.

Title: Re: Scorchin X-blem $49 @ Bowling Ball. Com

I would buy the blem or 2nd without a doubt. It can then be drilled the way YOU want and unless you are very lucky and find someone with the same span as you, the used ball will have to be plugged and redrilled.. You then have a twice drilled ball which if you wanted to sell is worth next to nothing..

I bought one of these blems and its just a color issue on mine. It arrived with great specs (3 in pin and 3 oz top)..

I am not a brunswick fan at all but for $44.95 shipped, its a great deal..

Quick Q-anyone leave it dull? just curious what that haze does when it gets a little oil in it? I'm sure i'll end up polishing it anyway, as i do with almost everything, lmk.

Thanks for the info.  I can't wait to pick mine up from the pro shop this coming week.  I have Clean N Dull so I'll give that a try.

Thanks,

Mike

Looks like the price is now up to $69 from $54. Darn! I should have done this sooner.
