Slingshot-Any actual pics or vids?
« on: April 03, 2010, 09:18:21 AM »
I know they haven't been out long, and usually entry level stuff gets ignored, just wanted to see if anybody had anything.

Going to be getting a lime/lavender soon and wanted a peek at performance, if possible.

I'd really like to know what reference bowlingball.com used when they decided to claim the Slingshot has 5-6" of flare potential and is meant to cover medium to heavy oil conditions like they claim in the video...

I was wondering the exact same thing.. Maybe by the way the guys throw the ball?? Cuz it did look pretty snappy in the back end.. But im pretty sure this isnt as aggressive of a ball as a rattler which is listed as a medium oil ball as well

Another issue - their site has the "Perfect Scale"

There have been discussions here on the failings of this rating system, but they  have the black/silver Slingshot with a perfect scale rating of 175.6 and the Rattler with a rating of 185.

A more appropriate rating of 74.9 can be found on the Power Grooves.

I'm not accusing them of deliberately misleading their customers, but apparently they are too busy taking everyone's money to double check their website for what I feel are more than just run of the mill typos.

Yeah should take the 1 off the front and make it 75 or so. Brunswicks website rates the Slingshot as being slightly less then the Power Grooves.

I'm starting to call this one the Ultimate Dry(er) Lane choice. The ball's smooth move late is a breath of fresh air compared to the 3 piece core balls that can be hard to predict at times.

 Rob,

That pic shows them to ALL have white logos, yet I was sent a pic of a lime/lavender with bright pink logos.

Since I have a lime/lavender coming, what should I expect?

How does the Slingshot compare to the Power Groove? Longer? Better back end?

By the numbers a Slingshot is a touch longer than a PG but smoother than the PG.

I think you got that reversed.
Same coverstock, PG has higher RG than Slingshot, so more length and higher RG differential = more flare = more backend.
Slingshot is earlier and smoother at breakpoint, but still long.

Jeff, I'm merely going by the length and break point numbers that Brunswick provides.

That being said, wouldn't a ball with less flare potential (more stable) change direction later than one with a larger flare potential?

Keep in mind that once holes are drilled, listed RG and diff. numbers are no longer applicable.

Dull balls, yes. Polished balls tend to save their flare for the backend.
But in this case there''s a huge difference in RG: 2.58 vs 2.7.
I''d have to go with less length and a controlled backend.
