Radical Inferno OOB surface finish --- quality issues?
« on: October 18, 2006, 06:49:16 PM »
On 2 RI's here in Germany, we recently noticed that the surface of this ball is not even! It appears to be kind of... wavy? On the balls we checked, the mirror image of the surroundings on the polished shell was distorted, as if you were looking at a moving water surface. Other balls (including OOB Brunswick and resurfaced balls) had a clear and sharp reflection.

I cannot say how or if this affects performance at all, but the RI's surface quality is not as good as it used to be on former balls. I guess it is the result of the new Mexico production plant.

Anyone similar observations, maybe also on other polished new Balls?

I'm sure their still working out the kinks, as I have seen a few of these "wavy" appearing covers on the first batch of RI's. Didn't notice a difference in roll, just purely aesthetical. To remove it, I used 500 abralon and work it back up to desired finish.

We had the same issue with two Red Zones that we received from our ball rep.  I called him and he stated that there is no issue in performance with these balls.  In fact, if you lightly sand them, the wavy look will most likely go away.

I've seen this "wavy" surface in person on more than just the RI's lately.  Seems a product of the new plant in Mexico.  Local shop put the problem balls on a Haus and then brought them back to the Brunswick high gloss "OOB" surface on the spinner...

The mismarked CG's have been an issue since the move was announced.  I guess the workers in Michigan started to slack off a little after the announcement?
