Track marks on OI after six games? WTF?
« on: January 18, 2006, 08:35:52 AM »
I've already bowled six games on my Original Inferno and have some decent sized track marks on it already. I bowl on wood lanes as syntetics are hard to find in my area. I'm just tired of my new equipment getting tracked out and dinged up. I have a ball spinner, but don't want to have to resurface balls all the time.

Anyone know how to get the OI back into factory condition in case I do have to resurface it? Help is very welcome.

I do it by taking it down to 400 smooth, and then applying one coat of the Brunswick High Gloss Factory Finish polish.

Weird, i have never had that problem with my OI. I have bowled on wood lanes before and all i do is wipe it off with my towel after every shot. No problems. I agree with BracketCreep, that is what the sheet that comes with the Ball suggests.
Hope it works.

Its hard to play with an inferno and not get burned. Last time I threw my inferno, the opposing bowler definitely got burned.

Guys,

A lot ( and I mean a LOT) depends on the condition of the lanes themselves. If they are wood and haven't been maintained or re-surfaced in a while, they can get pretty bad and track up almost every ball you own.

There is very little that can be done about it except find a new place to bowl that has synthetics, or at least takes better care of the wood ones they have.

P.S. I have an O.I. that I bought used. It had about 50 games on it when I got it( synthetics ) and I have put another 50 on it ( also synthetics ) and you can hardly tell it's been thrown. I have only cleaned and polished it once since I've had it, so 6 games is rather quick for it to start tracking up like that.

I just brought my OI to a synthetic lane house and the ball was great there. I'm not used to synthetics, but the OI had a different move to it than it did at the wood house which I have leagues at. Cleaner through the heads with a nice predictable backend.  The synthetic house that I just came back from has new brunswick synthetic lanes in there. I really wish my current house would switch over, but I know it is major $$$ for that.

A place I bowl at is wooden lanes and will be changing to synthetics shortly. 24 lane house, about $100,000 to convert over.

It really depends on the lanes. In one of my houses, a neat Brunswick AnvilLane is alid down, very nice and well-tended. BUT never, ever make a shot into the gutter, especially in a flat angle. The rim between the lane and the gutter is so coarse that it rips around the ball, marring it with 2-3mm wide track that looks like a rasp track! Luckily, this is not deep and disappears quickly.
