Title: Twist—Anybody thrown one yet?
Post by: Juggernaut on December 16, 2018, 12:35:22 AM
Looking for a third game—burn ball.

Been going to a urethane to control it, but carry suffers if I’m not just deadly accurate with it.

 Opinions?

I have not Juggernaut but if the higher RG Twist is as good as the entry level mid Rg Rhino then you will have something.  I think Brunswick has the low end reactive market covered better than just about any manufacturer.  The only other low end ball I like is the 900G After Dark's and I believe they have more total hook than the Rhino/Twist balls do.  The RG Hustles even more than the After Dark's from what I see around my neck of the woods.

For the rev dominant player on lighter volumes and THS where you want to play more in the track the Rhino/Twist balls are hard to beat.

I have one, love it. I'm on lanes with very little oil and a short pattern to boot. It's a way better option than my BTU pearl or Motiv rebel tank pearl urethane because of the carry. That said.... It's still fairly strong and I'm pretty far left. At this place its the first ball out of my bag and then I move to the others. I had to resort to plastic for game 4.

After Dark Pearl, 2 inch pin to pap. Go out and murder with it. Come back and say how much you love it. :)

I did use to like my Orbit Extreme. It was a bit lower RG, but .o35 diff and f35 cover. Used it a lot more than you would think. It was drilled Rico.

 Hmmmmmm...............

I'd say try to replicate that, but Rico requires a hole to be "Rico", so the 2 inch pin to pap will be the ticket, imo.

Still have and use one. Great dry lane balls. Heck, sometimes it's hard to get it to move on even light oil. It's so mild I have it at 4000 grit; it came polished.

It's the strongest ball in my bag 🤣 hahaha. It will definitely hook in light oil. Urethane will hook where I'm at too much, too early and not carry if I move left. The twist is a way better option unless there's zero oil and it's plastic time.

Watch Stu Williams at the 2018 Tulsa open beat urethane with his reactive. That's what you want the twist for right there dude

The Twist is a nice cover (Rhino) with a very stable core.  On the dry playing straighter lines it's hard to beat.

I agree with Lane.  I may get a Twist as I love the Rhino.  I'd use the same layout as my Rhino 4"x60* pin under ring.  I am on my 2nd Rhino. Matt McNeil does a good comparison here Twist, Rhino and T-Zone.  Some how I don't see a After Dark 15 lb. 2.56 .030 S30 reactive cover as weak as a Twist 15 lb. 2.59 .018 (R-16 cover which I remember someone saying was old PK-18 reactive) with the same layout comparing apples to apples.  2" pin Twist is gonna be weaker than a 2" After Dark.  After Dark and Rhino are close in strength total hook IMO.

OK, finally went ahead and got the Twist, and I must say, this is one of the mildest reactive resin balls I have ever thrown.

If you are looking for something for the burn, or the short dry shots, you may want to look into this one.

I bowled the entire set with mine, but if you don’t like to pipe it up the boards, or you don’t have tons of dry to throw it in, be warned, this ball does NOT like oil.

Drilled it pin up, about 5 X 3. Wish I would’ve went just a bit stronger, say 4 X 4, but I didn’t. Like it is, I get about 1-2 inches of flare.

Honestly, not too much stronger than a polished urethane. It’s the first resin ball I’ve ever had that I could shoot tenpins with and actually expect to make them.

I kinda thought it would be just what you were looking for Juggernaut.  Thanks for the report.

Yeah, don’t get me wrong. I loved it, and had an absolute blast with it.

Shot 209-226-213-648 with it, and while those scores aren’t record breaking, they’re plenty good enough for an old hack like me on league night!

This ball ISN’T for everybody. It doesn’t flare much, has a mild cover, and doesn’t cover up release mistakes like a lot of balls do. But, it IS consistent, so much so that I may take the super high gloss finish off it, but I’m not sure.

The ball is absolutely GORGEOUS in its blue/silver color combo. Don’t really know if I want to ugly it up or not, lol.  ::)  ;D

For senior bowlers that are rev dominant with lower ball speed on lessor volume which most THS are where you can play straighter....it makes sense to try a Twist at that low price.  A low flare reactive IMO is better than urethane for the better carry and not mucking up the lane condition in games 2 and 3 of league with urethane.   I think more of us should have balls like the Twist rather than urethane use with our lower rev rates say lower than 325 rpms and don't throw the ball thru the back of the pinsetter.  :)  Twist and Rhino make sense.  I went Rhino with a average standard layout 4" x 60* pin under ring and it's wonderful.  I could see using a Twist under the Rhino.  My stats. are in profile.

Juggernaut,

Don't be afraid to knock the gloss off the Twist a little (maybe 3000 on higher speed spinner) it doesn't need too much help.
My bet is that you'll like it more. It's certainly going to be all the control you wanted, except a tad more forgiving front-to-back on the lane.  Let us know if you try this and what you thought.

Going by the shop this week to get the wife’s new ball, and planned to do exactly that, take it to 3000 over the factory finish.

It already read the dry swing area, but not so much in the oilier tug area. Ball is real close to being exactly what I was looking for, so I don’t want to change it much, and 3000 sounds like a plan to me!

Things are cheap too! May grab me another and drill it stronger to max it out and see what happens. 🤔😁

Any updates on your twist?
I still love mine on my Sunday after kids birthday parties league burn ball. Hits hard, I'd really like to see a "pro" level twist with a dynamicore but otherwise this is a keeper for my conditions.
Cutting edge pearl or Magnitude .035 with dynamicore would be interesting as well. Love the low # stuff but doesnt get the "pro" quality components unfortunately.

Been really impressed with my Slingshot for the burn and light oil which you can still find on ebay pretty easily.  Take PK17 on outside over dynamicore on inside myself as carry on Slingshot is surprisingly good.

Twist are the best dry lane ball I have thrown.Weaker than Tropical Storms. If your houseshot is wet/dry you can park outside all day.
