When the slide hooks too much?
« on: January 29, 2009, 01:54:59 PM »
Where do you go?  I have mine drilled for dirt and it still hooks off of a 30 to 5 line by the 3rd game, its just getting rediculas.  I'm going kind of nuts here, what do you go to?

I've got a Av Pearl with the layout 5.5" above the fingers with a surface of:

4000 + factory finish polish + industrial marine polish ( i think thats what it is anyway....)

Anywho, it skids for days and needs a TON of dry to completely flip. But, when it does, man does it flip.

Also have a Urethane that goes under that. So maybe try and avalanche pearl with a length drilling and a TON of polish

More speed,
More tilt,
Less rotation,
Less revs,

Try bringing the surface to 4000 before applying polish. For most guys that will just about straighten any ball out.

I do agree that many times changing balls is not needed but he maybe like myself good rev and have a heck of a time creating ball speed anything will hook out of your hand if this is the case. I can come up the back of a xxxl and still hook the ball as much as people throwing similar revs and stronger equipment just because I have a substandard ball speed. I can throw a 16lb halfway down the lane if I wanted to but throw 15 cause I need more ball speed and I am looking to try 14 to get more yet. I feel 12mph with 16 14mph with 15 and 16mph with 14 if all goes well and I should be able to get the ball to push down lane far enough where I can actually play on drylanes effectively.

C'mon Burak. You don't really expect him to ADJUST HIS GAME to the conditions, do you?  By the way, not meant as a personal flame to crankncrash.  Aimed more to the whole "lane has changed, a different ball has gotta be the answer" attitude that prevails in the "modern" game today.

Don't know about you. but it's tough enough to try and get one release consistant. Although I can do it, it's more practical to grab a weaker ball and use the same line. A release change is done when "nothing else" will work..

Try a Tommy Jones drill on it with a ton of polish, or......

rico it, with a ton of polish. The TJ drill w/ polish will allow it to get downlane with a small, tight flip on the end.

The rico w/polish will allow it to get downlane with a smooth, controlled, but strong arc.

throw harder

It sure would be nice if it was that easy. Some of us arent blessed with effortless speed. I work hard as it is to get the ball speed I do have. I have a very high backswing among other things.

Maybe that's your problem, you shouldn't have to "work" to get ball speed.

I used to have a free armswing and was slow I then started helping it by pushing through the shot and almost forcing it to get my speed. Also as others have said try 4k+polish I tried this on my av pearl and it was definitly what I needed. The particular set of lanes I average only 150-160 due to the lack of oil and feeling out of control. I hit it with the 4k and polish and even on the dry lane it got me a nice up the boards shot and a 205,227,155(lanes got VERY spotty for the last game. I know these arent great scores but for the lanes it is definitly not bad(straight balls pretty much rule the house) just because they dont get over/under and extremely dry mids and carry down on game 3 and all that mess.

just because you can do it, does not mean it is effortless or even doable for everyone. Every one is not the same, physically or mentally or emotionally.
