Title: Ultimate Inferno VS Sanded Original Inferno
Post by: v02maxlefty on March 22, 2004, 10:07:18 PM
With all things equal.  Pin and Cg placement.  Will a sanded OI work just as well as a box condition UI on heavy oil or sport condition?

No, it will not from my experience be anywhere near the ball that the ultimate is. Now i love my inferno, it's one of my favorite balls, but on oil i'd choose the ultimate over the origional any day. But, for me neither is a real oil monster, i still like particle over both, but the ultimate does handle it's share of oil. Any other questions feel free to ask

I don't understand how there could be a different by looking at the stats of both balls on paper.  The ONLY difference is the finish of the cover and obviously the color.  So why would the UI be better than the sanded Inferno?  I'm not saying it isn't I just don't understand how it possibly could be.

Not quite.  The UI has a different formulation of the Activator coverstock.

Where does it say that Curse?  And if it's a different formulation why is it still called the Activator?

Unfortunately, the Brunswick Web site *doesn't* say this.  I learned about the difference from someone at Brunswick.

Also, note that the Blazing Inferno uses the "Activator" name as well, but the cover is different from that of the Original.

Hey, guys, here's a little secret:

The UI is a solid reactive!
The OI is a pearl reactive!

There ya go.

No, that was to the people saying that the two balls are exactly the same.

I won't dare even try to answer the question!!

wow that took forever to get to, though i thought the original was a pearl solid combo from something i read.. either way it has pearl and ultimate is solid.  If you think a sanded pearl will react the same as a solid then yep it will work, if you are like me and still don't think that a sanded pearl will give you the same reaction then nope it won't. The REAL answer is I DON'T KNOW!

I am giving this a "bump". I am interested in this as well. I would like to see the answer from someone that has actually tried this.

In the past, I have still seen a difference between a sanded pearl and a sanded solid reactive.

I thought with both of them shined up, layouts equal, the Ultimate still didnt show any sign of 'squirt' on carrydown. A shiny original pearl sometimes pushed a little too far on some carrydown, the Ultimate read it much stronger and was still strong even shined up to a high gloss. I was sometimes afraid to shine the original too much, but no worries with the Ultimate.
