Radical review, 2nd house
« on: August 01, 2006, 06:49:13 PM »
Found quite a different look with it at this other house.  First house was Anvilane, 36 foot drier walled house shot.  The house I practiced at tonight is Laneshield, 39 foot, medium oil, short buff, flatter shot, stronger backends.  The extra length down the lane and quicker transition from oil to the backend did make it pop more on the backends, but I noticed the same problem with it wanting to move early.  One shot was a 2-8, then a small adjustment right turned into a 4 pin.  Believe this though, the ball HITS at both houses.  This is the 4th ball I've ever had that I can really tell a difference in hit with.  Shots that look like they might pull up too late and be flat, or half pocket hits you might think you'd see a 10 pin on will fall.  4 games tonight, 2 10 pins.  Kicked out and slapped around a fair share more than that.  Did have a couple 8 pins and a couple 7-10's though.

The shine might have to come off.  The reaction is absolutely perfect when you nail your mark, just everything about it will make you all warm and fuzzy.  However, there's a small margin for error, because you have less miss room right and left than you might have with another ball.  Left will definitely leave you 4 pins or worse, and to the right, you have a smaller area where the ball might come back for a mixer.  The gloss makes it too sensitive, it starts moving when it sees dry, period.  It might make your target seem a little smaller, but it makes the pocket feel huge.  8 pins and 7-10's are a staple of this house, due to the long oil and sharp turn on the backends, so those didn't bother me.  Flat 10's are also a staple of this house, and like I said, I only left 2 in 4 games, which is an excellent ratio for this house.  However, due to the over/under, I couldn't get much going.  Had more splits than I'm used to, I don't normally leave more than 1 or 2 a night, and usually they're from coming in high.  Handful of washouts, and some combos with the 2-8 along with a few involving the 4-6.

So yes, it may involve some more tweaking out of the box than other balls (and maybe 3 3/4ths by 4 1/2 isn't that great of a layout for the ball), but unlike other balls I had trouble with out of the box, this ball shows a lot more promise.  It's just a matchup issue, that's all.  The ball has awesome continuation, when it starts rolling, it doesn't quit.  Think a longer and stronger OI, it really reminds me a lot more of that ball than the Smokin now.  Buy one.
