Rampage Drilling?
« on: December 20, 2005, 12:29:11 AM »
Hi everyone.

I'm currently bowling with a polished Trauma ER, which I find hooks too much/early sometimes. To give me another option when this happens I've ordered a Rampage, which should give me a bit more length and less hook when needed.

Looking at the Brunswick drilling layout sheet on the website, the 2L layout looks like being the best option. I am a stroker with medium ball speed and a high track. I prefer playing down and in over 2nd arrow. I bowl on a medium to medium-light oil house shot.

Would the 2L layout be a good choice?

Thanks in advance, Andy.

Hi

Thanks for the replies! I asked someone for a bit more information, so hopefully this might help. The oil pattern I bowl on is short, sorry I don't know exactly how long it is. At the start of play there's a medium amount of oil on the lanes, but roughly at the middle of the second game it starts breaking down and becomes medium-light. My rev rate can only be guessed right now, but the person I spoke to says aproximately 225rpm.

Also I understand now that the Punisher could be a good choice, but I have already ordered the Rampage so unless it turns out to be a total disaster I won't be getting a Punisher.

Hope this helps more.

Thanks a lot, Andy

I can underline twoheadedboy's idea: the Rampage is quite strong, and layout 4L might be the best option to use the ball on a short pattern which tends to dry up.

I have a similar house neraby, and a friend from my local house league team always struggled with stronger equipment there - I'd consider him medium revs (250+) and speed,a dn he releases the ball with not much axis rotation (= strong forward roll, no real flip hook).
Even his Punisher with pin under ring (much like 2E) is sometimes too much. So he bought an additional pearl recative Power Groove and had it drilled 4E, pin under his middle finger (as a righty!). This is the weakest drilling Brunswick suggests, but even with 4E the ball makes a good move at the back end and hits hard! Does not look spectacular but makes the ball work for him on this condition, and the PG proved to be verstaile even on oilier lanes.

The Rampage is even stronger, so I'd suggest 4L or 4E, depending if you want a late flippy reaction or a more controllable roll out of the ball. 2L can be easily too much, either hard to control with lots of Brooklyn hit, or the ball will lose too much energy on the back end after break and hit weak, leaving spilts and washouts.

You've all got me thinking now. So what if I had both a Rampage and Punisher? Both drilled 2L would they pretty much have my house covered? Like start off using the Rampage, then switch to the Punisher when the lanes start breaking down.

Would that combination work with a 2L drilling on each?

Thanks, Andy

I bowl at a house with short oil and use a rampage drilled to go long and it works great. Just get the speed right and it carries great!! Three 700's in three different houses.

How does the Zone Classic red pin compare to a Punisher?

Just in case I go down the route of getting a Rampage and a ball to go below that. Would the ZC red pin be worth considering?

Thanks a lot
