Scorchin' or Mammoth???

I've narrowed the two balls for the heavy oil spot in my lineup to either the Scorchin' Inferno (a 2nd from bowlingdeals.com) or a BVP Mammoth. I just wanted to come in here and see what you guys (especially Ric and Nick) think about each and their pros and cons. The main duty of one of these balls is for the heavier patterns or long sport patterns (espcially at JOG).

For heavy, long the Mammoth is an awesome choice. I put it up there with the Visionary AMB Particle and the Lane #1 Super Carbide Bomb....except that I like it better than either......they all handle heavy oil better than anything else.

Not too much wrong with an 8" pin.  Turn it upside down, mark the spot 180* from the pin, use that like you would the pin, and drill it like a 5" pin.

i've found that both balls have their uses. the scorchin' inferno worked very well dull ( 600 grit )on the pba regional pattern #5( 44' pattern )from the inside line. it's also worked well for me in my mixed league when i need more traction due to the plastic ball carrydown. my mammoth is also a very good ball and is the only ball that will work on the nights where their is a fresh shot and the plastic ball carrydown has been spread all over the place.

Thanks for the help everyone, it looks like I'm going with the Mammoth.

I do have a couple more questions, though.

How do the Mammoth and the Nemesis/Wizard compare? It's my understanding that the Mammoth can handle more oil, but how do they compare in reactions and such?

My last question (possibly ) is how do the Ambush and Rampage match up on a short sport shot? The Ambush was suggested to me as a ball to fit my Original Inferno and my Tropical Storm. I can get a used Rampage for a decent price, however, and I was comparing numbers, and they aren't too far apart. Would they both work equally well on a short sport shot, or is the Ambush worth the extra $60 to get?

even if the nemesis/wizard are dull that can't handle the oil as well as the mammoth due to it's high load particle coverstock. the mammoth will bite earlier on the lane than any other brunswick ball. when balls like these are finished with a dull surface their reaction is "arc-like"----especially the particle ball.

the rampage and ambush are both pearlized balls( although the ambush is a low load particle ) and sometimes their reaction on a tough shot can be very over/under. consider using them smoothsanded instead( 1,000 grit wetsanded or ever finer ).
