Which Monster??
« on: August 14, 2003, 07:05:30 PM »
Hey everyone,

Last night I won a PBA qualifying tournament, which will give me a paid spot in this weekend's event in Kankakee, IL. Along with the entry, I also will get to choose any ball from the Monster line free or charge. I have not thrown Brunswick much at all, never been a big fan, so I have no idea of what ball from this line might fit into my arsenal.  Here are the balls I currently own:

Sport:  Purple Ice Ex, pin below ring, cg below, box finish
Heavy Oil:  Dull Granite Gargoyle, pin @ 1:30, cg in grip center below ring
Med-Heavy: Cherry Bomb, label, box finish
Med-Light: Blade Pearl, pin @ 1:30, cg in grip center below ring, box
Light Oil: El Nino Wrath, pin below middle, cg kicked left, highly polished
???????: Tomahawk Low, 3-3/8" stack, polished

I guess I would be considered a stroker. I have med to maybe slightly above average revs, above average speed. My line of choice is usually a little bit of a belly through the oil between second and third arrow. Considering the equipment I currently have, I may just wind up picking a ball like a Frenzy and then selling or trading it. However, if anybody thinks that there is a Monster ball that would better fit one of those conditions better, I'm up for suggestions. Of the Monsters that I've seen, the only ones that have impressed me thus far have been the Scream/R, Smash/R, and the green/black, red/black pearls. Thanks for any and all help.

My favorite brunswick ball is the Smash/R. It's more of an arc than a skid/flip like the frenzy. It's got the Powerkoil 18 cover stock - just like the original danger zone.
Check it out - might be a ball that will work for you.

Agreed. The Smash/R is a real strong ball. Threw a new Screamer a few times. Definitely skid/snap, but a weak one at that. Always burned up before it got to the pins(At least for me). Congrats on your win and good luck with your decision................

I have thrown the smash/r and the bruiser. and i llike the bruiser. A lil more forgiving and tight back ends.

Thanks for all of the replies! I will most likely be going with the bruiser.

I have both the Red/Black Pearl and Smash/R in my arsenal, and I would recommend the Smash/R.. I throw a very similar ball to yours based on what you wrote, although my speed is kind of high.. But the SmashR is the way to go..
