Who made who
« on: June 16, 2006, 01:31:37 AM »
No this is not a reference to the AC/DC song, sorry.  I read several of the posts in this forum and sometimes get lost in the discussion of who makes which balls.  I have seen comments where Brunswick produces for others, but does someone know the complete list of who makes what under what names?  I realize there are the 'big' names like Brunswick, Columbia, Storm, etc...but who makes some of the other names?  Example, does Brunswick make Morich?  I'm not looking for a list for every individual ball, just the main names.  Just curious.  Thanks

Visionary bought the old Faball plant, I heard.  They manufacture their own stuff.

Also, Storm was manufacturing for DT, but DT has recently switched to Columbia for manufacturing.  Probably the old stuff is still made by Storm, but the 44 magnum and beyond will be from C300.

Ebonite makes Hammer now.

If there are any overseas Revolution balls (I think Rev is strictly overseas now), I believe Big B makes them as well.

i thought...

brunswick - morich - lane #1 - chameleon - revolution - elite - legends/lanemaster? (brunswick does not make the balls but the other companies uses the moldings from brunswick)

storm - roto grip - old dynothane balls

ebonite ???

columbia - track - circle - amf

i somehow thought that hammer was a division of dynothane or vice versa.

No, Ebonite bought the Hammer trademark from Faball (at least, that's what this site says).  Dunno what happened to the former Faball, whether they were folded into Ebonite or went their separate ways or what.  Recent balls that say "Hammer" are made by Ebonite.

Columbia doesn't own AMF, strictly.  They license the AMF name from the AMF company and designs/manufactures bowling balls under the AMF name.  AMF is still a separate company, they make lanes and pinsetters and such, they are out of the ball market.

DT, apparently was owned by Storm at some point in the past, was bought or spun off in the somewhat more recent past, and is its own company.  They don't, as far as I know, own anyone else.

I thought Big B actually manufactured balls for Lane 1 and Morich, though now I'm seeing that they simply provide the resins.  Who does the manufacturing?  Do those guys have their own facilities?  I don't believe they do, as their balls have several "Big B" manufacturing characteristics like the locator pin for asymmetric balls and the punch mark for the CG (in addition to the Lane 1 core logo).
