With all the "nay sayers" that are so vocal regarding this ball, is there anyone, besides myself, who has found this ball to be a great addition to the line-up?

Simply put, I've never thrown a stronger pearl reactive, ever! This one handles more oil than any pearl I've ever thrown, yet still finishes strong for me. Carry is good, too. I have mine at about 2000 abralon, since I use it on fresh (rather slick conditions on Pro Anvilane) and it's lay out is strong at 4" from PAP and below the fingers. Having said that, if I don't throw it well it tends to look like any other pearl...

So, if you've had GOOD results with yours let me know some specifics regarding your lane conditions, ball layout, and something about your game. I'd like to know where this ball fits best, and for what type of bowler. Please continue to post any negative comments in the other threads. I have read them and frankly, I am a bit baffled...  Thanks in advance for your replies.

I think when you have numerous pros throwing the Wild Ride on TV and none of them do well with it, I think it sets a bad tone for a ball.  I think we saw 6 different Wild Rides/ layouts on the show and none of them looked that great.  One, I think it was a startegic marketing move by Brunswick to have all their staffers throwing it and that moved bombed big time.  As per usual this year, Storm looked great.

Yea I was planning on getting one of these, until I saw all the different pros using it on TV and it looked bad in all of their hands.  Now, I realize that they are bowling on tougher patterns, but they're also much better than me, so it's a wash

I now am going to definitely pass on the Wild Ride, and if I get a decent tax return, I'm either going with the rattler or an emerald vibe...

On edit, I don't care if it looked bad on PBA patterns, etc. The vast majority of us don't bowl on them regularly. Please stick to the topic. I've already heard the negative, mostly by those who haven't even thrown the ball.

I will also rave about the Rattler. There have been times for me that the Rattler is more difficult to control in the last 10 feet of lane than the Wild Ride. It is very angular.

Maybe this question is premature since the ball has only been out about 2 weeks. I will watch it for a little while, and possibly withdraw the question until more people have had a chance to throw it.

THS (typical house shot) on league night.  Freshly drilled Wild Ride, box finish, pin under, (sorry don't have my drill sheet with me).

Played straight up 5, smooth move off the dry, continuous motion through the pocket.  First game, 278.

Then I realized I was establishing an average for the league.

I love this ball.  It's a nice addition to my Smash Zone which I have a tendency to be over/under with once the lanes break down.

Brad was doing good with WR, just made two "very" bad shots! I don't think there was a problem with the reaction, especially down the lane.

Lane,
I too find this ball to be a great addition to my arsenal. It is, indeed very strong pearl reactive! For comparison it is touch longer but definitely sharper than my polished Absolute. My Original Inferno looks like a urethane next to my WR! I'm seriously thinking about drilling an x-hole on my PAP to make it tamer.

I have tried it on couple of patterns, both THS and sports/flatter ones, and as long as you line up properly (relatively closer to friction) I haven't come across any "lack of backend".

I haven't tried any surface other than box yet.

IMO, the reason that there are so many "nay sayers" is the core. Remember, same problems was told also for TFPs.
Unlike the high-end pieces from other brands, this asymmetric core has considerably low differential. I believe, this makes it a bit shy to be a better match up for the majority (speed dominants, less rotation, and/or simply bowlers with relatively weaker releases).

With this core, I prefer:
Lower pins, stronger pin-PAP distances AND smaller drilling angles. Both TFD and WR has a natural length and unless I'm drilling for somebody with over 500 rpms, I do not prefer otherwise.
Additionally, asymmetrical piece with a low differential gives a driller many options for drier/shorter and flatter patterns.

I'll copy paste what I've written to another thread for the comparison part

Original Inferno (Snake Oil over 500 Abralon, 4-1/2 from PAP, pin even, no hole)
Absolute Inferno,(Snake Oil over 500 Abralon, 5-1/2 from PAP, high pin, no hole)
TFP (Snake Oil over 500 Abralon, 5-1/2X45X65, no hole)
Ultimate Inferno. (Snake Oil over 500 Abralon, 5-1/2 from PAP, high pin, strong hole)

All balls are relatively new and oil extracted and surface prepared couple of days ago.

Wild Ride is very close to my Absolute, being more responsive to dry with similar length. Original Inferno is good 5 to 8 boards weaker on all patterns I've tested so far. OI is very smooth in comparison to WR. Twisted Fury Pearl is close to OI, but touch cleaner and much sharper down the lane. IMO, Wild Ride is more than a step up from TFP. Ultimate, with current surface preps, is the strongest of all. Earlier and less effected by carry down.

This is one interesting piece of equipment.  Oob, I had to stay extremely close to the friction.  This wasn't a problem, unless I tried to move in deep, because it seemed allergic to any carrydown.

I have taken the surface to 1000 abralon with storm extra shine, and I added a flare increasing hole afterwards (2 1/2 inches down on the val).  The drill is 4 inches pin to pap (puts pin under the bridge), with the psa at 2 3/4 inches from pap and an angle of 60 degrees.

With the current surface prep and added weight hole, I have absolute faith in this ball on numerous conditions and lane conditions.  It is awesome, I can get in an boom it, or I can take a little hand out and increase the speed and still play the track (due to how clean the ball is through the front of the lane) when everybody else has migrated deeper.  I have used this on wood, wood with guardian, and synthetics.  I would have to say that it is great for medium/medium light in its current configuration.  It is very adaptable, but you must watch your speed, because it still needs some friction somewhere.

I guess what I am trying to say is that the ball gives me a ton of options.  On the right condition, the ball is very continuous.  I would like to see one with a stronger drill.
Thanks,
Dennis

I have used mine in two different centers on two different house shots and in our PBA experience league currently using Viper. Mine is 4.5" pin above my ring 70 degree MB angle. Despite the angle this ball isn't overly snappy, I left it OOB and after a few games the cover wore in and I don't feel I need to touch it at all.

I actually stopped using it so I didn't wear it out too soon because I LOVE the reaction. I too think it reminds me of my Absolute pin high. This ball is now in my GO EVERYWHERE category along with my Total, Sidewinder and Fury Pearl.

On the PBA telecast it was pretty obvious the left lane was horrible and everyone had a hard time on it.

Mine is 5 x 5 stacked with the pin 1" above my center of grip. In oob and at 1000 abralon i saw nothing that could get this ball to hook. My pro shop guy even threw it and it didnt do much of a "skid/flip" like the stats on this ball say. So now i hit it with brunswick factory finish and will try to find more friction for it to see if that helps. Rattler turns sideways on the backend with the same drilling and 1000 abralon surface.

Dear HmMrDwN103,

Have you noticed that notclay kindly asked us to leave negative comments on other threads? This thread is for the positive feedback! It is also quite obvious from the title.

On a side note, if 5X5 stands for pin-PAP distance and MB-PAP distance, MB should probably be around 70 degrees, which, in my opinion, is a bit higher for this core. It needs to get up earlier than higher diff cores. If that second "5" stands for the CG-PAP distance, than drilling angle would be way to high which leads to skid forever.
