My setup needs help
« on: September 07, 2009, 04:31:43 AM »
Im see that i really struggle the first couple games of league (we bowl 4).i just have a problem with my balls just laboring hard on the back but once the outsides dry out and i get that bounce spot im fine. Alll i have right now is 2 balls and a plastic.

HEAVY-im still undecided i thought maybe a Cell,Virtual gravity,or maybe a Siege?ALso what type of drill maybe something like a 4 by 4
MED-Heavy-i was thinking maybe a hy-road with a 45-4 1/4-65
MED-Rattler drilled 50-5-35
Light-Avalanche solid drilled 62-4 1/2-65
Plastic Ice Storm
STATS:speed 14mph
rev: 250
pap: 4 1/4=> 1/2^
rotation: not much mostly up the back of the ball.

Sounds like a small move towards friction, or playing more direct at first would help. This is especially true if you're "mostly up the back of the ball".

EVERY BALL needs to find adequate friction before it can change direction. Merely trying a different ball would not likely be the cure all because the ball will still travel in the direction of it's rotation (after it finds friction).

Why not experiment with adding more rotation to your release, so when the condition allows you'll have a plan B? You'll still have your natural release as your A game. Just a thought...

The virtual gravity might not be the best ball for heavy oil, it's soooo clean through the front.  It would be a GREAT benchmark with a scotsch of polish, or good med/heavy ball.
Take a look at ebonite pin slasher and Brunswick Wild Ride as med/heavy.
Put the Hy-Road as a med ball.  It a good piece.

Second that. Since you do not provide details about your lane play strategy I'd suggest moving closer to the gutter and play down-and-in. This will not only make a back end hook and early friction more probable, it will also make your life easier in the initial phase of league because you do not have to search for friction - while donating balls to the gutter due to an impossible belly shot. It also creates some straight "wall" you can exploit in later games, when you use a good sponge ball

If you face a THS, the Hy-Road should IMO be sufficient. But you could really need a matte solid ball in your arsenal, either 4x4 or just drilled up like your Hy-Road, with a matte finish.
