Will Rattler fit?
« on: February 02, 2009, 10:51:46 PM »
I love my Swarm so much, I am really eyeing the Rattler, there is one in the pro shop with just the right specs.

Do you guys think if I get it and drill it exactly like my Swarm, which is modified rico, that they would compliment each other. There are times where I need a little more ball than the Swarm, or when carrydown becomes present, something that is going to drive a little harder.

I have never tried an activator cover, sounds like a good opportunity

They sure compliment each other well, but the question is whether they compliment the way you would like to have.

Rattler should be touch longer and bit more angular than swarm. I have Original Inferno (3 actually) and Rampage. IME, Activator pearl handles carrydown better than PK18 pearl.

If you want something "more" than Swarm, polished Copperhead, Ultra Zone or Wild Ride would be my suggestion. If you need something similar (in terms of oil handling range) with a different look, Rattler will fit perfectly.

Hope this helps,

I only have about 12 games on my Rattler at this point.   Usually, I don't like comparing balls this early, but here goes anyway.

Both my Swarm and Rattler are drilled with the same layout.  I was actually very suprised at how different they really were.  I know, I know, different covers, different cores.  Even so I expected the same shape of hook, but a bit stronger.  Well, I certainly got stronger.  The Rattler starts up so much earlier in the mid-lane than the Swarm.  And then it just doesn't stop.  Very strong on the backend of the lane, as is my Swarm.  So, yes they will compliment each other.  I personally was hoping for a 3 - 5 board difference, but got an 8 - 10 board difference.  If you need that much of a difference, then go for it.

My hope is that once I get some oil in the cover, then the Rattler won't "rattle" so much and will get closer to the 3 - 5 board difference I was looking for.

Who needs a 300 or 800, when I have a 294 and a 295!?!?!

I'd say my Rattler is a few boards stronger for me, but I am seeing it different than mrteach3.

The variations that you're hearing about are definitely due to the various lane surfaces and oil conditions we all bowl on.

My Swarm starts up a little earlier then turns nicely, but it's not as long and angular as the Rattler. They may compliment each other, but I suspect it will be a more subtle difference than some are experiencing.

I see what you guys are saying, a little more backend, which is what you are saying is what I will be getting with the rattler might be a good idea, beacause it is when there is carrydown or a little more oil than the Swarm can handle, it is the lack of pop in the back that keep me from carrying the corners, and with the drill I have on it, when I start moving inside, carry can be suspect, because of its milder backend.

If they were to similar I would probably go to 4000 abralon on the Rattler. That would make it a touch stronger.

BTW, the rattler I saw last night is a heck of a eye catcher. Very nice looking ball, as is the Swarm.

There is some "shelf appeal" with the Rattler, that's for certain. I get asked about it quite regularly, especially after they see it finish on the lane.
