Does Brunswick offer any Demo Days?
« on: January 16, 2009, 07:37:31 AM »
I have been buying Big B Balls for about 4 years, and I've been happy with most of them...(I love my Total Inferno...not so much with my Smash Zone)

My proshop whom I have been super impressed with since I was referred to him several years back, has had demo days at all his proshops, that have been about twice a year, yet there has never been an Brunswick Day...With all the new equipment out there in the last year, I would really like to try something else to fit a hole in my game, I know my proshop could recommend a ball to fit my style, yet I would still like to throw the new stuff to get a "feel" for it.

I understand that there is a great cost involved in traveling around with this equipment and what not, yet I don't see as much Big B equipment at my houses as the competition. I received an opportunity to throw some Blem's that my guy had aquired to try to put something together, but I wonder why nothing has been sponsored by the parent company...Maybe its just that I live in the little city of St. Louis that so often gets forgotten that its actually a fairly large bowling community unless Pete Weber is on TV then we get a shout out, but soon forgotten.

Any chance of this ever happening?

Thanks for any information.

I don't see why a Proshop couldn't put something together as long as provide other equipment all at the same time. The shops are in a position to want to get the right ball in the right hand and help their fellow bowlers understand the difference between each ball.

Just don't say one ball company over another

In other words, you cannot use a process that allows bowlers to try out bowling balls and changing out the finger or thumb inserts.

From the people I've talked to....I believe it's all in how you word it.

You cannot advertise it as a Demo Day and perform the act of interchanging like what Ebonite does.

I do believe that any pro shop can advertise that they are having a ball tryout of some sort and let people throw different balls.  And....it might help if it's not using the same interchangable thumbs that Ebonite uses.

Storm and Roto has done several over the last couple years and I would imagine it is all how you word and perform the "Open House".

But if this was the case how can golf companies, tennis companies and probably other sports have demo days where I can go in and try clubs from Ping or try raquets by Wilson but I can also go another day and try Nike clubs or head raquets it really doesnt make sense that bowling is the ONLY sport where its limited to one company supposedly also didnt track not long ago have a demo day and if so wouldnt this technically be infringing on the patent if such patent is actually enforcable and lastly can you really patent this as I thought a patent was for a product of sorts not an idea of advertising which once again would lead to commercials and many other advertising methods come into play which would be considered infringment. last and probably most obvious would be those test drive days or whatever they are called. Like Jeep has where you can try out all the jeeps on their course however if I remeber correctly there was a few other companies that do the same deal and in theorie this seems to be the same idea. lastly I could see the thumb being patented and in that thumb not being allowed for use without consent I think it is simply ebonite going off to scare Big B into not doing it and trying to reduce the competition "I can show my product and such but you cant" sort of idea and with as corrupt as our legal system is I dont blame Big B for not fighting it face it I could break in your house get hurt and sue you and win what kind of legal system is that.

Actually I did find the patent using google. I should have posted the link. I thought it was BS but there is an actual patent on their changeable system. I still don't know why somebody else couldn't invent something similar. If I can find it again, it is probably in my browser history on my home computer.

Thats what I mean you can patent the particular interchangeable system but not the idea of using it as a way of advertising your product.

From what I was told, it's more the fact that no one can afford to take Ebonite on  regarding this.....and they (Ebonite) know that.
