Another Smokin question
« on: August 30, 2005, 09:37:54 PM »
My specs are in my profile.
Ok,my Absolute is drilled 4x4,pin next and slightly
above my ring finger.
I want my Smokin to be one step under in my arsenal, using
it when the Absolute is a too much ball for the lanes.
Can I drill it the same?
Should I tame the backend a bit by the drilling to maintain the
ball controllable?
What kind of drilling would you suggest?
All advices will be greatly appreciated.

I don't have the Smokin, but I did have the Absolute and Intense.  I would punch the smokin 5 x 5, this would give you a longer and more angular look over the Absolute.

By nature the Smoking is longer and more angular than
the Absolute. My main fear is that the ball could be
less controllable than my absolute with the same 4x4 drilling.
Andrew, could a 5x5 drilling make the ball more controllable?

I don't think so, a 5 x 5 is going to give you quite abit of backend.  Usually, when trying to achieve 'control' the pin would be closer to the PAP.  I've used pin axis or 2 x 2 for my control balls.

If the smokin is anything close to the II, it should get real nasty on the back...

I laid mine out with a pin leverage drilling( CG a little to the right of my palm, pin at 2 o'clock  3" pin) Same as I laid out my original inferno, I noticed that the ball is very controlable and a strong reaction. With the dynamics of the ball, I still get decent length, but the ball rolls hard and carries very well.
