This is the picture of patrick Girard impulse zone he used to throw 300 this week.  I picture is a little strange, but it looks like the pin is in the track under the thumb hole.  Can anyone tell me what reaction you would expect to see from this kinda layout?

That's bizarre...

Judging by Girard's reaction to the drilling(as noted in his expression in the reflction), he might have been worried.

My expression is the same as patrick's.lol When sweet'ums called me and described it i was thinking they used a full roller style drilling. ok i have seen it used for bowlers who are not full rollers and it offers smooth control reducing the flare. so i'm going to assume this layout has the same intentions.

I knew a few high rev guys in college that would borrow their dad's ball, which was drilled full roller, to use on lanes when they needed control.

I don't believe he's a full roller, if I remember correctly from Brunswick Insiders, they described the first time they saw Girard bowl, he brought in about 6 or 7 Classic Zones drilled differently.  I don't believe that a full roller would be able to have that many different drill patterns available to them.  I like the idea of having a full roller layout for him, it'll even out the pattern for him, especially on that Impulse Zone.  The particle load in the ball would even out the pattern and so would the layout.  They could do it with a Goliath, but that ball would probably move WAY too early, I think the Impluse would work perfectly in that area.  Like it was said earlier, I think he liked it, to the tune of 300!

With a high track, Bob7, I'd guess this would flare over the thumb hole like nobody's business. This type of drill is more for those with an inside out track or for tracks with 5" or lower PAPs. I am pretty sure this will flare in the reverse direction. I could be wrong. It is a full roller drill; check any manufacturer's drill sheet.

Hopefully I can help clear some of the questions up.  I was at the stop and standing next to Rick when he laid the ball out and watched Patrick shoot the 300.  Bob7 is pretty much correct in the reaction of the ball with that layout for Patrick.  Clean through the front and have a smooth, controlled roll on the back.  It enabled Patrick to play more down and in on the outside, which is where he played.  The ball was good early in the block, but as the oil carried down it had to be put up.  The 300 was shot in the first game of the second 7 game block.  It was the first game he used it and was also his first PBA 300.  I can tell you, as Charlest mentioned about flaring over the thumbhole, this was a concern Rick had in laying it out, but fortunately it did not.
